Every so often you play a game that just grabs you so much you want to run out and buy it. As my geek experience has built I have learned how to resist these impulses, usually, but I still find myself succumbing on occasion. Below are all the games I have bought after only playing once. Feel free to add your own but please only make one entry per user!

The most recent temptation I couldn't resist was Space Hulk: Death Angel TCG. It was the most fun I've ever had playing a co-op.

Other Buys After 1 Play: (Smileys for Ratings)

Puerto Rico

I got this one after one play at a game night. Both my Girlfriend and I enjoyed, therefor it was procured.

A few years back, when this first came out, I had no clue it was out there. I went to a gaming buddy's house to do some Warhammer Fantasy, and he had this out on his gaming table, he had gotten it at Wal-Mart to play with his 8 or 9 year old son, and we played a game, it was great!

On my way home that night, I went to Wal-Mart and got the Master set as well as one of each of the boosters that were out (just the first wave) and have been buying the game ever since.

One of the big appeals to me is that this game is fun with my teenage son, my younger boys and also gaming group buddies.

D.

I'm going to take the liberty of listing the games that either I bought after one play, or games that I own that someone I game with bought immediately for themselves. So, besides the above:

Gravediggers
The Red Dragon Inn and The Red Dragon Inn 2
Ticket to Ride and Ticket to Ride: USA 1910
Once Upon a Time: The Storytelling Card Game
Gloom
Pandemic

Looking at this list, I see many of my favorite aspects of gaming: a little co-op, a little party/family gaming, some dark humor.

And a Knizia.

Mine's in the green box, but it's still the same great game. This has actually been a more popular gateway game with my non-gaming friends than TTR.

It is very rare that I play games with anyone outside of my closest circle of friends, but one time I did and I got to try Ra. I liked it a lot, much more than I tought I would actually. I didn't run out and buy it straight away, but when I thought about how versatile the game was I couldn't stop myself. I mean, it plays 5 players under an hour, is easy to explain, feels different from most other games, and is just plain fun.

Tha sad part is that it hasn't clicked with my wife or my friends, but I am keeping my copy dammit!

Played this the first night I went to a gaming group. The next day I was busy trying to track it down.

Sushizock im Gockelwok - Favorite quick time filler for my wife and I.
Ticket to Ride - It took me a couple plays to get around to it, but I wanted to after the first play

I've bought a couple games that qualify on this posting. Bohnanza turned out to have the most enduring joy for us. A great first play led to many others.
One other game, Scotland Yard, was great fun on the first play (there were five of us looking for Mr. X).
I bought it and we soon found out that it's tough to play Mr. X effectively, and it isn't quite as much fun when you only have three people looking for him.

This was my return to the world of boardgaming; I played a lot in high school, and didn't know anyone who played in college, and didn't find a group until a few years after I graduated; when I got back into it last fall, I played this and loved it, and went out the next day to get a copy. It still gets a decent amount of play, too.

Technically, two plays, but it was two plays in the same session, and after the first I'd already decided to buy it. Definitely feel like I've gotten my money's worth out of this one, both from solo play and with the group.

Always have my eye out for a good SF boardgame, and I liked this one well enough; the next week I saw it on the clearance shelf at my friendly local, so kind of a no-brainer. Hasn't gotten as much play as I'd like, if only because it was acquired right as a couple of big hitters hit our group, but I'd like to bring it back out; maybe I'll bring it this coming weekend.

Played this once and thought it was huge fun; bought it, and haven't been able to get it out more than two or three times since. This more than anything is my example of why all of us geeks saying "Why do they pack games in such giant boxes even when they could fit it in something smaller, I'd still buy/play them if they were packed reasonably" are lying to themselves. This game is essentially a boardgame where the board is made of cards; it could just have easily been printed on a mounted board and sold in a big box -- instead, it's packed (in the edition I own) in the Zman double-card-box format. Which makes a lot of people dismiss it outright when I recommend it. Sad, really, because it's a pretty cool little game.

I had dismissed this one with little thought because I really wasn't too found of the card game. But man, what a great little game. Rules are simple but gameplay is interesting enough for gamers and non-gamers. I could see this replacing Ticket to Ride as my "gateway" game of choice.

Played this one at Origins '93 with a very understanding group that patiently helped the Noob. Lots of fun, great period flavor. I was hooked.
