Leaves are turning and the weather is getting cooler here in New England. Time to get some more games on the table!

Just a suggestion - if you happen to see the game you are playing already in the list, may I humbly suggest you just add a comment rather than a new entry? Only a suggestion, mind you, and you don't need to go on a Quest(tm), but it would give the rest of us an idea of what games are really being played.

Got this for my birthday. It's a lot of fun for a tactical game.

A lot of thought went into this puppy, that's for sure: the types of actions, how units can coordinate actions...all very innovative.

An impressive game! I've played 3 scenarios so far...

Started the month with an oldie. Had lots of fun sending Hood's troops to assault the thin blue line defending Devil's Den and Little Round Top. The advanced game added some complexity to the rules but not too much.

Dusted off this old classic. Haven't seen it on the table in a while. One of, if not the best wargames on the Italian Campaign of WW2. I have both the original and the later revision.
Still holds it's appeal after all those years.

My regular gaming partner and I started a game of 1st Bull Run last night with me taking the Union. We have only made it through 2 turns thus far, but we have had a good time. It is stored away in the flat file for the time being until we can pick it up again. We are going to be working on our Wilson's Creek design pretty heavily this month so we will be playtesting the hell out of that one. I am experimenting with scale right now and we are also going to try using a couple of different rules systems. We will see what works well.

Had three other people over to my house on Saturday to teach and/or get them addicted to the wonderful world of ASL.

We played S1 and S6 simultaneously. It was an Allied kind of day, as the American paratroopers held onto Vierville, and the Russian winter assault took all three buildings.

Vierville was rather interesting, as we had to double-check the precise definition of "Good Order" to determine the winner. Alas for the Germans, the melee raging in one of the victory buildings (which had started in the first half of turn 3 and continued until the end of the game) did not qualify.

Just started this one this month. Did my initial setup for the Germans in Operation Cobra and sent off the VASSAL save game. Should be interesting. The ruleset isn't overly complex, but the size and detail in some areas I think will make this a very playable and replayable monster.

I am beginning the next PBEM scenario with the Close Action group who just ran an online Trafalgar game that took nearly a year. The new scenario is Providien, pitting the French against the English in the West Indies (I think). I'm the French Captain of the Severe a 64-gunner with a pretty mediocre crew. More each month as the battle develops.

I am still too busy traveling to start up my planned pile o'PBEM wargames, but luckily Mike (Scoobysnacks) is patiently plugging along with this with me.

We near the end of Turn 4 and contrary to my designs Mike's Soviets are climbing closer to a VP auto victory. I think it is at -16 or so now, Mike having gained 4 VPs with the play of "OPEC" (I forgot about that card - sigh). I have to run his latest LOG file and see whether he has pushed me closer to the brink.

We are enjoying this game immensely and look forward to continued difficult decisions.

The Union is finally closing the noose as the CSA runs out of manpower in the Fall of 1863. Missouri is nearly back in able Union hands. Richmond continues to be threatened with a "full" (15 SP) Army of the Potomac, and Grant has bottled up the Army of the Missouri in Ohio. Things are certainly looking grim for the CSA this season. For a first game, so far, I'm not too disappointed in my performance, but it was a learning game for both of us.

I am playing the First Battle of Manassas against

N/A

And the Union have taken a drubbing on the nose. The next few hours will be critical, however, as McDowell has finally got his central divisions moving against Henry House Hill. I have a sinking feeling that the CSA will not be able to hold the hill with its few battered brigades against fresh, high-morale Union troops, but there's always a chance that Stonewall Jackson will pull another victory out of his a$$.

A fun game so far! And, again, couldn't recommend Pale Dog enough as a fun opponent.

We are currently learning the RSS system with the intro scenario, but i think we are both chomping at the bit to get into a "real" game. Fun so far, but lots of learning. The LOS rules with slopes, and the difficult hex colors are making this one a bit of a grind, but I think I'll get the hang of it. Right now, the 55th Ohio just drove away the 10th Mississippi from Logan's Farm, and three more regiments with CSA cannon are coming down the road through the marsh. I don't envy the rebels the march, that's for sure!

UPDATE: In the learning scenario, things have gone sour for the CSA . . . along the Confederate right, the 9th Mississippi was scattered by the 54th Ohio while trying to form line of battle at the base of a slope. Along the left, the 7th Mississippi also took a volley, fell back into the woods Shaken, only to have the volley immediately followed up with a Union charge. The CSA held off the Union boys long enough during the close combat to drive them back, but lost enough stragglers during the combat that the regiment, for all intents and purposes, has melted away. The Union regiment fell back, running up the slope, and found itself Disorganized, but otherwise intact.

I can see from our play of this game that assaulting a position is a bit difficult (both on the advance and for charges) if you have lower-quality morale troops and/or don't plan the advance carefully enough. Of course, the largest conspirator so far have been the dice.

So far, we've played the first three scenarios, and once we finish them, I'm hoping to convince him to continue with the other expansions and/or the Random Scenario Generator. Our next game is scheduled in about a week.

UPDATE: We played Scenario 4 from the base game, a scenario I have been itching to try ever since reading some awesome session reports about it: Closed for Renovation. The Americans (me) made fair progress, but a series of Time! triggers drove the turn marker dangerously close to Sudden Death. I think the Germans were two counters away from Surrender with the Engineers approaching the manse under cover of heavy smoke. We had to call the game early, as Jon Q. had to leave, but it looked like the Germans had the advantage in this one unless the Americans could reach the Surrender level or get lucky by not having a Time! trigger for a while.

I think when we stopped, the entire manse was covered in artillery smoke with about five Germans still occupying the building and the building being flanked by the American platoons. I had cleared off enough of the right side of the board (right side from the American perspective) - that I was considering running counters down it for exit VPs. But the Sudden Death marker was so close to popping up that I think I would have continued with the attack instead.

A GREAT scenario - and I'll probably try to convince Jon to try it again.

My on-line newb game of this is winding down - we have a few more impulses left in Turn 6 or 7 (?) and the Haps (me) are within striking distance of a possible win. The Pope, so far, has edged out the Haps, and the Haps are "turtling" in a lop-sided war against the three other secular powers - England, France, and the Ottomans. We are technically at war with the Prots, too, but they are too busy fighting the Pope.

An interesting game. This is only my third game of HIS, and I've never even been close to winning to before. I doubt it will happen this time, either, but I've had an awesome time, regardless.

We're on our third game of PoG. First game went to the CP when the French front collapsed. Second game went to the Allies as the French held firm and the Russians slowly absorbed VPs in the east. Our third game is just in the second turn (Sept. 1914) and has seen a few opening salvos in the West and East. I'm liking this game a lot so far. I think both of us are still wondering how anyone manages to spend OPs in Turkey given the pressing needs on other fronts, but who knows? Maybe the Near East will open more this game.

Soloing, now on turn 19PM of the campaign game. CCA is completely destroyed, but the other elements of 1st Armored Division have masterfully defended far-flung locations in the nick of time. Tebessa nearly fell, but has held. Axis is now going to fall back and (try to) capture the VP location in the valley to the east. Should be a close game....

Currently slugging it out in the First Punic War with my buddy Thad. We just started turn d10-8 and the situation is a bit dicey for me (Romans). Thad's Carthaginians just captured Syracuse wow but I managed to capture Messana last turn and marched into Corsica this turn intimidating cities left and right. So now, the question is can he push me out of Messana and Corsica before I can build a proper navy.

Once this is done, we've talked about going to The Rise of the Roman Republic and our favorite scenario in that game: good old Pyrrhus. Of course, we will have to use a die roll to settle who gets to be Pyrrhus

After that....who knows right now laugh

March/April 1945. Tokyo falls to the USMC! Royal Marines & 82d Airborne take Taranto! Soviets blast thru to Stettin, nearing Bucharest! Huge holes appear in Axis lines! All in the same impulse.

Now it is a race against the clock. Italy is doomed, but will the Allies take out Germany and Japan in time?

I have this set up for a solo game, my first. I'm about 7 turns into it; the Germans are nearing Smolensk and Kiev.

A very interesting hex-and-CRT wargame where the Soviets and Germans are completely different.

My exploration of GWAS continues. Since I'm trying this one solo, I'll stick to the Battle scenarios. Has anyone tried the solitaire rules on the Avalanche site for the Operational scenarios? They were really skimpy with the scenarios on Plan Orange, but there are some additional scenarios available on the Avalanche web site.
