In honor of Veterans Day, I thought it would be interesting to find out how many game designers and artists have served in the military.

I decided to break down the list in three different categories.

1. A list of individuals listed by their last military rank. I thought this would be interesting until I discovered it was going to be quite difficult to find such information about most veterans.
2. A list of mostly famous individuals whose biographies have been listed in wikipedia or who are no longer living, listed by date of birth.
3. A list of more recent game designers and artists, listed by last name. Much of this information was gathered from geeklist 15989, Geek of the Week information, and a search of microbadges.

Most of the individuals that I found were from the United States and the United Kingdom. This was not meant to slight any other country. This is simply the information that I uncovered as I can only read English. I'm sure that there are many individuals that I omitted especially from those countries with mandatory military service.

If anyone wants me to remove their entry or change their attached photo, let me know.

Let me know if I made any errors, or if you have better information.

Brevet Brigadier General David Hunter Strother (September 26, 1816 – March 8, 1888) was a successful 19th century American magazine illustrator and writer, popularly known by his pseudonym, "Porte Crayon". He studied drawing under Samuel F. B. Morse in New York in 1837 and 1838. Despite his Virginia upbringing, born in the modern-day Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, Strother supported the Union during the Civil War. On June 12, 1864, Colonel Strother was chief of staff to his cousin General David Hunter. He was involved in the shelling and burning of the Virginia Military Institute and was involved in 30 battles, though he was never wounded. Following the war, he was Adjutant General of the Virginia Militia and a member of the Virginia Military Institute Board of Visitors who actively promoted its reconstruction. In 1879, Strother was appointed by President Hayes to be the General Consul to Mexico.

Colonel Theodore Roosevelt (October 27, 1858 - January 6, 1919) was a former New York City Police Commissioner and Assistant Secretary of the Navy who during the Spanish-American War formed the First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment also known as the Rough Riders.
