We have a vast and growing database of people covering a huge variety of games. In amongst the cross-section of humanity, a few noble souls have slipped into the database that at first glance may surprise you.

Sure, we expect to find such luminaries as Jeff Easley or Gerald Brom here. This GeekList isn't about them. Rather this GeekList aims to gather together those artists whose work graces various games, but who are not known primarily for their gaming work.

Criteria for inclusion:
Famous, a proxy for which is that they should be listed on Wikipedia.
Non-gaming artist, by which their claim to fame should be for art but not for work on games.
Game credits, by which they should be somehow linked to a board game, RPG, or video game.

Feel free to add more names to the list. People are sorted alphabetically.

"William Blake (28 November 1757 – 12 August 1827) was an English poet, painter and printmaker. Largely unrecognised during his lifetime, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age. ... His visual artistry led one contemporary art critic to proclaim him 'far and away the greatest artist Britain has ever produced'. In 2002, Blake was placed at number 38 in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons."

"Arnold Böcklin (16 October 1827 – 16 January 1901) was a Swiss symbolist painter. ... He is associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting. "Jan Frans De Boever (Ghent, Belgium, 8 June 1872 - 23 May 1949) was a Flemish Symbolist painter. While considered a successful artist during most of his lifetime, his megalomaniac character made him a solitary and isolated individual. ... Jan Frans De Boever received his training in Ghent at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts... From 1909 onwards, he modified his style radically, painting women and prostitutes in morbid and bizarre settings, with skeletons, diabolism, subservient men and eroticism dominating his paintings. These paintings were allegorical and mythological, reflecting romantic imagery and depicting the universal struggle of good against evil."

"Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi, better known as Sandro Botticelli or Il Botticello "The Little Barrel", (c. 1445 - May 17, 1510) was an Italian painter of the Florentine school during the Early Renaissance (Quattrocento). ... His posthumous reputation suffered until the late 19th century; since then his work has been seen to represent the linear grace of Early Renaissance painting. Among his best known works are The Birth of Venus and Primavera."

"William-Adolphe Bouguereau (November 30, 1825 – August 19, 1905) was a French academic painter and traditionalist. In his realistic genre paintings he used mythological themes, making modern interpretations of classical subjects, with an emphasis on the female human body. During his life he enjoyed significant popularity in France and the United States, was given numerous official honors, and received top prices for his work. As the quintessential salon painter of his generation, he was reviled by the Impressionist avant-garde."

"Gustave Clarence Rodolphe Boulanger (25 April 1824 – October 1888) was a French figure painter known for his classical and Orientalist subjects. Boulanger was born at Paris in 1824. He was orphaned at age 14, and his uncle and guardian subsequently sent him to the studio of Pierre-Jules Jollivet and then to Delaroche in 1840. In 1849 took the Prix de Rome with his painting, Ulysses, a work which combined a classical approach with Orientalist overtones. In 1845, he first visited Algeria and this gave him an interest in Orientalist themes, which was taken up later by his friend Jean-Léon Gérome. ... He began teaching at the Institut de France in 1882 and was an influential teacher, noted for his dislike of the Impressionism."
