We have a vast and growing database of people covering a huge variety of games. In amongst the cross-section of humanity, a few noble souls have slipped into the database that at first glance may surprise you.

Sure, we expect to find such luminaries as Jeff Easley or Gerald Brom here. This GeekList isn't about them. Rather this GeekList aims to gather together those artists whose work graces various games, but who are not known primarily for their gaming work.

Criteria for inclusion:
Famous, a proxy for which is that they should be listed on Wikipedia.
Non-gaming artist, by which their claim to fame should be for art but not for work on games.
Game credits, by which they should be somehow linked to a board game, RPG, or video game.

Feel free to add more names to the list. People are sorted alphabetically.

"Józef Brandt (1841 in Szczebrzeszyn – 1915 in Radom) was a Polish painter, best known for his paintings of battles. Brandt studied in Warsaw in the school of J. N. Leszczynski and at the Noblemen's Institute. In 1858 he left for Paris to study at the Ecole centrale Paris but was persuaded by Juliusz Kossak to abandon engineering in favor of painting. He studied as a painter in Munich under Franz Adam and Karl Piloty and then opened his own studio. His paintings mostly study 17th-century military life, though he has also done some studies of Polish peasant life."

"Agnolo di Cosimo (November 17, 1503 – November 23, 1572), usually known as Il Bronzino, or Agnolo Bronzino (mistaken attempts also have been made in the past to assert his name was Agnolo Tori and even Angelo (Agnolo) Allori), was an Italian Mannerist painter from Florence. His sobriquet, Bronzino, in all probability refers to his relatively dark skin. ... The painter Alessandro Allori was his favourite pupil... Many of Bronzino's works are still in Florence but other examples can be found in the National Gallery, London, and elsewhere."

"The Limbourg brothers, or in Dutch Gebroeders van Limburg (Herman, Paul, and Johan; fl. 1385 – 1416), were famous Dutch miniature painters from the city of Nijmegen. They were active in the early 15th century in France and Burgundy, working in the style known as International Gothic. ... Around 1398, after their father's death, the brothers were sent for by their uncle Jean Malouel..., the most important painter for the French and Burgundian courts of the time."

"Ford Madox Brown (16 April 1821 – 6 October 1893) was an English painter of moral and historical subjects, notable for his distinctively graphic and often Hogarthian version of the Pre-Raphaelite style. ... Brown's most important painting was Work (1852–1865), commissioned by Thomas Plint and which he showed at a special exhibition. It attempted to depict the totality of the mid-Victorian social experience in a single image... Brown was the grandson of the medical theorist John Brown, founder of the Brunonian system of medicine."

He is regarded as a key figure in transition from the Russian neoclassicism to romanticism. Karl Bryullov was born ... in St. Petersburg, in the family of the academician, woodcarver, and engraver Pavel Ivanovich Briullo (Brulleau, 1760—1833) who was of Huguenot descent. He felt drawn to Italy from his early years. ... Following advice of his doctors, Bryullov left Russia for Madeira in 1849 and spent the last three years of his life in Italy. He was hired by the actor-manager, Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree in 1898, and worked with him for sixteen years. "Hans Burgkmair the Elder (1473 – 1531) was a German painter and woodcut printmaker. Burgkmair was born in Augsburg, the son of painter Thomas Burgkmair and his son, Hans the Younger, became one too. From 1488, he was a pupil of Martin Schongauer in Colmar, who died during his two years there, before Burgkmair completed the normal period of training. ... Hollstein ascribes 834 woodcuts to him... From about 1508, he spent much of his time working on the woodcut projects of Maximilian I until the Emperor's death in 1519. ... Burgkmair was also a successful painter, mainly of religious scenes and portraits of Augsburg citizens and members of the Emperor's court. Many examples of his work are in the galleries of Munich, Vienna and elsewhere, carefully and solidly finished. His portraits suit modern taste better than his religious works. Burgkmair died at Augsburg in 1531."

"Zdeněk Michael František Burian (February 11, 1905, Kopřivnice, Moravia - July 1, 1981 Prague) was a Czech painter and book illustrator whose work played a central role in the development of palaeontological reconstructions during a remarkable career spanning five decades. Originally recognised only in his native Czechoslovakia, Burian's fame later spread to an international audience, and a number of artists later attempted to emulate his style. He is regarded by many as the most influential palaeo-artist of the modern era."

"Sir Philip Burne-Jones, 2nd Baronet (1861–1926) was the first child of the British Pre-Raphaelite artist Sir Edward Burne-Jones and his wife Georgiana Macdonald. He became a well-known painter in his own right, producing more than 60 paintings, including portraits, landscapes, and poetic fantasies. ... Having a famous father was difficult for him, and it was Philip's fate in life that his work was often compared unfavourably with that of his father."

"Jacques Callot (c. 1592 - 1635) was a baroque printmaker and draftsman from the Duchy of Lorraine... He is an important figure in the development of the old master print. He made over 1,400 brilliantly detailed etchings that chronicled the life of his period, featuring soldiers, clowns, drunkards, Gypsies, beggars, as well as court life. He also etched many religious and military images, and many prints featured extensive landscapes in their background."

"Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (28 September 1571 – 18 July 1610) was an Italian artist active in Rome, Naples, Malta, and Sicily between 1593 and 1610. His paintings, which combine a realistic observation of the human state, both physical and emotional, with a dramatic use of lighting, had a formative influence on the Baroque school of painting."
