We have a vast and growing database of people covering a huge variety of games. In amongst the cross-section of humanity, a few noble souls have slipped into the database that at first glance may surprise you.

Sure, we expect to find such luminaries as Jeff Easley or Gerald Brom here. This GeekList isn't about them. Rather this GeekList aims to gather together those artists whose work graces various games, but who are not known primarily for their gaming work.

Criteria for inclusion:
Famous, a proxy for which is that they should be listed on Wikipedia.
Non-gaming artist, by which their claim to fame should be for art but not for work on games.
Game credits, by which they should be somehow linked to a board game, RPG, or video game.

Feel free to add more names to the list. People are sorted alphabetically.

"Antoine Caron (1521 – 1599) was a French master glassmaker, illustrator, Northern Mannerist painter and a product of the School of Fontainebleau. He is one of the few French painters of his time who had a pronounced artistic personality. His work reflects the refined, although highly unstable, atmosphere at the court of the House of Valois during the French Wars of Religion of 1560 to 1598. ... In 1561, he was appointed the court painter by Catherine de' Medici and Henry II of France. ... Not many of Caron’s works survive, but they include historical and allegorical subjects, court ceremonies, astrological scenes, and his massacres, done in the mid-1560s."

"Vittore Carpaccio (c. 1460 – 1525/1526) was an Italian painter of the Venetian school, who studied under Gentile Bellini. He is best known for a cycle of nine paintings, The Legend of Saint Ursula. His style was somewhat conservative, showing little influence from the Humanist trends that transformed Italian Renaissance painting during his lifetime. He was influenced by the style of Antonello da Messina and Early Netherlandish art. For this reason, and also because so much of his best work remains in Venice, his art has been rather neglected by comparison with other Venetian contemporaries, such as Giovanni Bellini or Giorgione."

"Annibale Carracci (... November 3, 1560 – July 15, 1609) was an Italian Baroque painter. ... In 1582, Annibale, his brother Agostino and his cousin Ludovico Carracci opened a painters' studio... Carracci was remarkably eclectic in thematic, painting landcapes, genre scenes, and portraits, including a series of autoportraits across the ages. He was one of the first Italian painters to paint a canvas wherein landscape took priority over figures... In 1609, Annibale died and was buried, according to his wish, near Raphael in the Pantheon of Rome."

"Carl Gustav Carus (3 January 1789 – 28 July 1869) was a German physiologist and painter, born in Leipzig, who played various roles during the Romantic era. A friend of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, he was a many-sided man: a doctor, a naturalist, a scientist, a psychologist, and a landscape painter who studied under Caspar David Friedrich. In 1811 he graduated as a doctor of medicine and a doctor of philosophy. In 1814 he was appointed professor of obstetrics and director of the maternity clinic at the teaching institution for medicine and surgery in Dresden. He wrote on art theory. From 1814 to 1817 he taught himself oil painting working under Caspar David Friedrich, a Dresden landscape painter. ... When the King of Saxony, Frederick Augustus II, made an informal tour of Britain in 1844, Carus accompanied him as his personal physician. ... He is best known to scientists for originating the concept of the vertebrate archetype, a seminal idea in the development of Darwin's theory of evolution."

Eugenio Caxés (1577–1642) was a Spanish painter of the Baroque period.

He was born into a Florentine family in Madrid, and wrote his name in a variety of ways (Cajés, Cazés, Caxesi, and Caxete). His father, Patricio, was a disciple of Alessandro Allori and was recruited to Spain by the ambassador Luis de Requesens.

Caxés painted in the royal palaces of King Philip II of Spain. He married the daughter of the disgraced Juan Manzano, master carpenter for the Escorial, who died in a fall from a scaffold.

Caxés was commissioned by the administration of King Philip III to decorate the room for royal audiences in Madrid, where he painted a Judgement of Solomon in the vault. He was appointed Painter to the King in August 1612. Most of his works were completed in Madrid. Along with Vincenzo Carducci he painted the chapel of Our Lady del Sagrario in Toledo, and the canvases of the Retablo Mayor del Monasterio de Guadalupe. He was awarded 11,000 reales for a large historical canvas on the History of Agamemnon (now lost). Among his pupils are Luis Fernandez and the barrister Valpuesta.

He was the editor of a biography of Spanish painters, called the Abecedario Pittorico. He opposed a fee proposed to extend the alcabala to painters.

"Paul Cézanne (French pronunciation: [pɔl seˈzan]; 19 January 1839 – 22 October 1906) was a French artist and Post-Impressionist painter whose work laid the foundations of the transition from the 19th century conception of artistic endeavour to a new and radically different world of art in the 20th century. Cézanne can be said to form the bridge between late 19th century Impressionism and the early 20th century's new line of artistic enquiry, Cubism. The line attributed to both Matisse and Picasso that Cézanne "is the father of us all" cannot be easily dismissed."

"Tom Chantrell born Thomas William Chantrell in Manchester on 20 December 1916 died 15 July 2001 was a British illustrator and film poster artist. ... Chantrell did not see the films he drew for; he would receive a plot line and a handful of stills and use friends and family for poses. Examples of this were taking photographs of himself trying to look like a vampire for Dracula Has Risen from the Grave and his wife Shirley held a plastic sword in the back garden to pose for Princess Leia on the original Star Wars poster. Chantrell's posters were often produced prior to the film being made in order to raise money from investors."
