The Dr. Bibberrule

As you probably know skating is one of the favorite sports in the Netherlands. For example last weekend were the Dutch championships for the various distances and my wife is glued to the screen again (men in thight outfits).
We are good at skating. Last Winter Olympics the Dutch team gather a truckload of medals on the various disciplines and when in wintertime the canals and pools of Holland are frozen solid, every Dutchman takes his skates out of the grease and hits the ice, often quit literary.

Skating can also be a very dangerous sport. The skates are extremely sharp and when you fall and hit the blade of your opponents skate you can get extremely grisly wounds.
To lessen the change on such injuries the international skating union (ISU) has introduced at new rule. When a skater passes with his whole skate in the opponents lane, he is automatically disqualified, even if his opponent is nowhere to been see.

This rule ask your topskaters for a change in the style of skating because it frequently happens that you cross into another lane if you leave the curve, especially if you have the inner lane.

The rule has met enormous criticism in the Netherlands. Even the Dutch Skating Board (KNSB) voted against it.
One skater, Olympic Gold medalist Mark Tuitert called the rule the Dr. Bibberrule, after the Dutch name for the game Operation.
