We all know that in our hobby there are fashions and hypes of new games while only a small number of games stands the test of time and becomes an evergreen or even a classic. Actually, Although games don't come and go in a matter of weeks, it's not so much different from music industry.
I made a simple search of all games published in 2004/2005 with more than 100 ratings and looked how they're ranked (not by Bayesian average). You can see the results below.
I plan to update this list every two months and see how much is changing in that time for those new games. In January 06, games from 04 will simply drop out. I do not include expansions, only stand alone games.
This time we have only 37 games (all from 2004) fitting the criteria but that should change in the next issue I guess.
Sorry if the information on the items is restricted to only stating the position, remember, it's the first edition. In the next one, position change, rating change and change in BGG overall ranking will be covered.
Which game has the potential to rise, which will fall back into oblivion? We could all make educated guesses which game gains most positions, loses most positions and which new game starts highest in the charts. Lamentably, I don't have BGG-Gold to offer, I'm saving for a badge.
