I'm looking for a 'light' playable dungeon-based boardgame
that fits the following description:

- not too rpg-ish: countless number of counters and rules to keep track of.
- not scenario-based. I simply hate to read a whole storyline-introduction before playing a game. It needs to throw you emmediatly into the game.
- No Dungeonmaster required
- Quick and catchy combat
- works well with miniatures, replacing the standard counters in the box.
- Offers a new dungeon with eacht play (modular board)

The following games are possible contenders for purchase, so advice is more than welcome, as other suggestions in the genre:

This looks promosing, but I fear that it's more of a strategy-game than a combat-related affair.
Does it involve some light rpg-elements (something I don't mind, asl long as it's not too heavy).

Again, looks promising and with great possibilities in using my favorite miniatures in combat.
But is it actualy a dungeon-crawler or more of a carcassonne in a fantasy-setting?

Looks alot like heroquest but I hope it doesn't rely on scenario-play....

Mage Knight Dungeons. Since it isn't "supported" by the manufacturer anymore, most of the stuff is reasonably inexpensive. The 3D stuff is really cool, but you can go the route of a couple of builders kits (I think you can get 3 for < $10 on Ebay), a starter set ($10), and some extra heroes and a lot of mage spawn (should be reasonably cheap). You can add the two heroic quest sets for two well balanced hero parties if you'd rather. Honestly, this one is as expensive as you're willing to let it get, but can probably get it rolling for $30-40.

While not exactly dungeon-based, I believe it fits all of your other criteria.

Dungeoneer has a few stats, but the cards do a nice job of managing them. Each pack of cards includes the maps, characters, monsters etc needed to play...you just supply the dice and a few counters.

Modular board connected through embedded magnets. Base game uses miniatures with special character cards listing attributes. You could "replace" the miniatures with your own and still use the cards for gameplay.

Draw tiles to build the dungeon each turn. Get to the middle of the board, steal the dragon's treasure (hopefully without waking him up!) and get back out before the sun sets.

(posted Dungeonquest Catacombs since I couldn't find the main game, Dungeonquest listed.)

While not *precisely* a dungeon game it's pretty close. And the boards are modular, though the variation really is in wall placement. But it gets all the feelings we hope from dungeons: that things might attack us at any turn, that we want treasure, that the slime is in fact something we don't want to touch ;-)

It's also no longer in print, I don't know if that's a restriction for you.

The rules are easy to "get" but occasionally you do need to look up how one of the many spells (70ish in base, 200+ with both expansions) interact, but rarely is the answer non-intuitive. The rules are ~10 small pages big print.

Wow that's a lot of negatives, heh. Postives: the game is a *lot* of fun, and plays in an hour, and really sates a need to fling spells iffen you like games like that.

DOOM: The Board Game

Wow!! I finally go to play this game and I love it. It quite well balanaced. The scenarios and stroyline are interesting yet not over drawn. You do about 2 minutes of reading for an entire 2-4 hour game. If the invader (the player controlling the bad guys) gets the board setup ahead of time then the setup time from section to section is minimal. The team that put this game together really did some serious play testing. This apparent in the well thought out use of limits and sway based on player. IT also shows in the balance of the game. The fighting feels fair. The custom dice roll out perfectly. I know it's not in the theme of your old school dungeon crawl, however, that's really what it is, just with a new spin! Check it out!!

We played this one with no DM, each person responsible for a task. This is pure dungeon crawling at its best, at least in my opinion.
