So it has been a little over one year that I have been a member of boardgamegeek. There are not a lot of websites that put you in touch with such an awesome gaming community. I just thought that I would share some of the things I experienced this year, and give thanks to some of the people that helped guide the way to find exactly what kinds of games I should be playing.

(There is a lot more to be said, but I don't want to ramble. Plus, I'm not very good at writing/grammar.)

I have been a gamer my whole life. I was lucky enough to play games like Chess, Acquire, Twixt, Cribbage, and Torres growing up thanks to my father. I think the kickstart to move me from playing video games to board games happened about two years ago. I was fortunate enough to attend C.A.B.S in Columbus, OH with my dad who was a member. I played Liar's Dice, Dominion, Mystery of the Abbey, Alhambra, and Ticket to Ride. This renewed an interest in board games for me, and persuaded to find a game group where I lived in Texas. If anyone from CABS is reading this, thank you for being a fabulous organisation, and I hope you keep operating for years to come.

About a year ago is when I discovered BGG.
I went to a garage sale and found Web of Power, Message to the Czar, Castle, Lawless, Feudal, and Wadget for 2$ a piece. I knew nothing about them, so I looked them up when I got home. I found BGG immediately, and was able to find all the information I was looking for. I then started reading about other games. Then it became my homepage. Then it was a daily routine. Now I can't go a day without seeing what's for sale or what reviews have come out.

Tom, I really want to thank you for your contributions to the game world. You are personable, entertaining, informative, and hilarious. I definitely don't agree with you most of the time, but I very much enjoy listening to your opinions of games. Your video reviews are awesome, and are the sole reason behind my purchases of Carson City and After the Flood. I just started listening to the Dice Tower podcast. You and Eric definitely are a joy to listen to on the way to and from work. Thanks for keeping my enthusiasm in the hobby lifted, and know you are making a difference in the gaming community.

One thing I love about this site that makes BGG very unique are the trades. I love how eager a lot of people are to trade their games for other games. I have bought many games that I would've had to donate to an unfortunate family member, but because I was able to dump them on someone who actually wanted them and get something in return, these have been wonderful. I really like the math trades, and have been very lucky in getting good items out of them.

I wouldn't be making this list complete without mentioning my favorite designer that I would have no clue about if it wasn't for BGG. Collecting Wallace's games has been a hobby within itself, and would've been impossible if it wasn't for the BGG Marketplace. His games are definitely my favorite to play. They are quirky, original, economic, strategic, historical, and always a blast to play. Plus, I absolutely adore Peter Dennis's artwork. My girlfriend and I are currently addicted to Brass and Age of Steam, but I think my favorite game of his is Princes of the Renaissance.

Another reason I love BGG is that it puts you in touch with designers from around the world. Hans Van Tol sent me ducats for Opera. Many designers frequent the rules pages and answer questions users may have. The coolest experience I had was arranging the shipping and distribution of copies of Master of Economy and Show Business throughout the USA from Poland. I was able to contact the designers of the games, and all the people who were receiving copies of the games because of BGG. They turned out to be great games too.

Shameless plug for my auction happening right now. Just want to close in saying thanks to BGG for making it easy for me to connect with the hobby, and the people who have similar interests to my own.
