Had some friends over for some games. One guy arrived first so we played a few games of Forbidden Island. He loves co-ops, and really enjoyed this one despite its simplicity. We won easily the first game on Novice, so we tried Legendary for the next game with the Coral Reef configuration (check the threads for the alternate island set ups). We lost pretty badly there. Another guy showed up who also hasn't played so we tried out Skull Island on Normal and again had an easy time.

Then the last guy made it and we played a game of Red November since none of them had played that one before. We made it through 3/4 pretty easily, than the 3 disaster tracks started racking up, and we were being blocked by a bunch of fires or floods. As the final gnome reached the end of the track, we had three last event cards to draw before safety. The wrong card would either asphyxiate us to death, or the subs pressure would crush us. First one was a door block, no problem. The second card... respite. No event! One final card. It was.... the Kraken! The Kraken wouldn't attack for 15 minutes, and we were being saved immediately, so we survived! I always enjoy this game.

Last game we played was a game of FITS. I always take too many risks in this game and I always do horribly. I don't know why I do, but if it ever pans out, my scores would be awesome!

Tuesday night was back to Arkham Horror. We had our third game with Kingsport. The ancient one was Atlach-Nacha, which means all gates are considered gate bursts, so there is no point in sealing a location, because they could burst right back open. We would have to close all the gates simultaneously. Well, we came close plenty of times, but right when we would be ready to close the final one, another one would pop open. It wasn't long until the ancient one awoke and devoured us.

I also fit in two solo games of Defenders of the Realm this week. I first tried out the new scenario that was posted, and lost pretty quickly. So I set it up again and did a little better, but still lost. The dice were not my friends this day.

This week I played the following with my wife, and a few of the Thunderstone plays were solo plays.:

Seeland x1
Thunderstone x5
Thunderstone: For the Dwarf Promo x5
Thunderstone: Promo Pack 5 x5
Thunderstone: Wrath of the Elements x5

Right now I am really enjoying Thundestone (obviously). I actually like the solo play mode that I found here on the geek. Now that I have about 20+ plays on Thunderstone I feel like I can compare it to Ascenscion (30+ plays) and I have to say that are not all that similar other than both being deck building games. Ascenscion actually has a lot more player interaction and it is a little bit more chaotic because of the way the center row works. I really like both and I feel like (and my wife agrees) that they both fill different niches inside the deck building genre and there really is room in the collection for both.

Almost nothing for me this week, just a few plays of this one with my wife last night. I plan to rectify that tonight though, when we will pull out either Agricola or Kingsburg. I'm kind of leaning towards Agricola which I've been really enjoying recently.

This game seems to have came out in a good time, since most of my gamer friends have been to busy to play. I played this game at least 14times this week. Most of them solo, a few times with my wife. She is frustrated with the game due to being beat so many times.

This is starting to get quite a bit of table time with our group. Three of us have bought it so far, which actually worked great a few weeks back when we had a large group and two games to put out at the same time so everyone could have a go. Our first ever game took an ungodly amount of time, but it's starting to move faster now.

We began a session last night with five, but as one of us was almost literally falling asleep on his feet, we sent him home while he could still command a vehicle, and re-set for four. A pity, as I was playing the Arachnids in game one, and had a good hold on the game in the early rounds. Ah well.

The second game had no Reptiles or Birds, and saw some very unusual tactics. I consciously avoided Domination as the Mammals because I was never going to get the good cards anyway with my place on the initiative track and I wanted to avoid the other, much cleverer folks from scoring when I did, so I went with a lot of glaciation and wanderlust to pull in VPs. It didn't work well all the time, and had the side effect to enabling the Arachnids to begin pulling in serious points from Tundra tiles as the game went on. Eventually I went back to the Domination track, when the world had gotten so much bigger I could reasonably figure out who was going to start scoring alongside me.

Anyway, to cut a story that's getting long much shorter, this was actually the first game we've played that wasn't won by the Arachnids. Anphibians ruled in the end, with a close second for the Mammals (four points!), so that 'weird' tactic kind of almost worked.

I'm very tempted to have this game myself now. That'd be four copies...
