Like the swallows returning to Capistrano, Nancy is returning to regular attendance now that summer is here and school is out.

Bittersweet news in the group - our founder Rick is moving to greener (actually probably browner) pastures in southern Utah, also timed with school.

More information about the group and a schedule of game nights is available at www.boardgames.meetup.com/495.

We also have a guild on BGG. It is here: www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/433

Look us up on facebook as well.

Brian

One of our group traditions is the birthday game. Travis, whose birthday was last Saturday, chose Wealth of Nations with the War Clouds Expansion.
Mike and I pre-signed up. Amy was going to play originally, but Russ bravely chose yet another new game for him.
I won starting player, and chose mines. Travis chose factories, Russ chose generators, and Mike took farms.
I decided on the "automated mines" strategy. At the end I was getting 7 ore for one ore and one energy. Though the price of ore plummeted, still was OK. I then built generators to be more self sufficient.

No one had built any academies and labor was at the max price so that was my next build. Others had similar thoughts.

Travis and Mike were in a bit of a battle-helping me (Travis did target me as well)

Travis ended the game by placing all his flags - thinking he wasn't going to end up any better (with my well defended automated bank making 9VP per turn). Mike held onto his cash thinking it was his best option for points.

This is probably my best game for win %
(tiles + cash = total points)
Brian 48 + 29 = 77*
Mike 28 + 34 = 62
Travis 44 + 12 = 56
Russ 36 + 12 = 48

* the score sheet says 36 + 29, but I had 12 tiles (4 mines, 3 generators, 2 academies, 3 banks for 48 tile points) - my fault, not Travis'

There are two filler occasions - at the end of the night when it isn't quite quitting time, or at the start of the night when you are waiting for more players. This was the latter.

I enjoyed my earlier play of this - I remember how quickly one goes from "plenty of food" to "drat! my people are starving"

(population + bonus = total)
Mandi 26 + 9 = 35
Mark 25 + 6 = 31
Bill 21 + 6 = 27
Shawn 23 + 3 = 26

As far as I know, none of the players are colorblind, which is a good thing in this game. I'm combining the two plays of this into one entry. Note that low score wins.

Game 1:
Cole 6
Ben 7
Derek 8
Joe 15
Jace 16

Game 2:
Joe 2
Derek 7 (better than he thought)
Cole 10
Jace 17
