In a lot of games going first is an advantage (Eg. Go or 7 Ages) but in some games going first can be a serious disavantage.
Only one has come to mind so far (the one that inspired this list) but feel free to add if you can think of any.

I love this game and play it all the time. How ever, I find myself NEVER wanting to go first. When you are player one, in a 5 player game, there is going to be a good chance you are slightly behind the curve as the 4th player has a good chance of starting a hotel chain on his turn.

If playing with an aggressive group, moving first will leave you open to all sorts of abuse.

I think it is best to go last in this one.

While in basic SvC placing first and last evens things out, in the SuR expansion you can get some really crappy places for your city.

The creator of the computer version ran a simulation of thousands of games, and all players won an even share of the games, except the one going first in the first round.

Since BMtB starts with a bidding round that only goes around once, it's best to be the last player, since you know whether you'll win the bid, or you should save your card, and worst to be the first player, who is more likely to be beaten.

Some people think going first doesn't matter so much in this game, but trust me, as someone who has played dozens upon dozens of games, it does. It's a significant disadvantage.

At least in the official Alea Two-Player-Variant it is a disadvantage to start with indigo against corn. Most often takes a round or two until you can produce something (depending on plantations to choose from).

Again, in the two-player-games with my girlfirend, it seems to be a disadvantage to go first. Mainly, because you either move 3 pirates (and reduce your card supply accordingly) or you move two and take one card. In the latter case, your opponent finds two of your pirates ready to join, to get two additional cards, which is at least a start boost.
