Have you ever hired someone or been hired by someone in a non board game related field where board games played a part in the interview resulting in you getting the job? Tell your story!

Similarly, if you've been fired from a job because of a board game, let's hear it.

Let's hear what sought after qualities board games bring out in a player.

I offered a second interview to a candidate after finding out in the first interview that their interests included board games - specifically Memoir '44 (which is one of my favorite games!). I figured anyone wise enough to enjoy such a game was worth a second look.

Sadly, the candidate did not have the industry experience I was looking for, but whatareyougonnado.

Not the board game as much as the video game, but "World of Warcraft Guild Leader" has shown up on more than a few resumes that have hit my desk.

This article came out a few years ago, and I wholeheartedly believe that running a guild "amounts to a total-immersion course in leadership." That being said, it is hard to separate the players that will bring their Wow-job to their real job from the would-be hard workers.

I can only imagine how many people have been fired for playing WoW on the job. The game is truly the crack cocaine of online video games.

Lastly, I once passed on a resume that cited: "World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Public Beta Tester" as their top qualification for a programming gig. *facepalm*

Before I hear it, keep in mind this was 35 years ago and I remember talking to the interviewer about it. I went to college with his son and we would get together at his house and play it.

I tell 'em what they want to hear,
and then watch them whimper once
they realize they've made a bargain
with the devil.

Since a previous post brought up Monopoly, I thought I'd throw another early American game in the mix.

Oddly, the only thing The Game of Life teaches you about professional life is patience - as this is one of the most boring games out there.

This game depresses me as you spend the entire game completely fixated on money equaling happiness.

I learned this game at Gen Con last year. I use it to get EVERYONE to game with me. Literally, everyone. It's so small I carry it in the car and shove it in my handbag, just in case I need it. I have forced strangers in train stations (Chicago to be exact), accountants (while waiting on clients for meetings) and potential employers (who aren't gamers) after the job interview to play with me.

My enthusiasm for the game shows through easily and my people skills come out. This game most recently got me a job waitressing! lol Wacky, but true! The manager laughed at how much fun it was (he was looking at me like I was crazy 2 min before) and hired me on the spot!
