Another day of gaming down. I'm even more exhausted today. But dang it, there's still another day to go!

Again we spent a few hours in the bazaar and the rest playing games. So what did we see and do?

My friend knew Zev deserved some of his money, so he decided to pick this game up on a whim. Frankly, I knew nothing about it, which would usually scare me away.

I at least like to have a general feel for the game. Some rating or reviews on here. And especially reading the rules before I buy and often before I play. So Dave really went outside my comfort zone. We'll see if I have enough time tonight to ingest much of the rules for this one.

Zev also had some Mermaid Run going on too.

This was rather ridiculous. I mean, yes, there is plenty of Anime and even Hentai at GenCon. But a deckbuilding game of scantily clad anime chicks?

CardHaus was doing a domestic release of it (Yes, as a publisher instead of just a retailer.)

The booth was all tricked out. And I just had to stop by and see the spectacle.

I had to stop back by and see the CGF guys on our way through. They were still doing a brisk demo and retail business.

Someone was interested in trying out ZimP, so 3 of the staff, my wife and I joined to make it a 6 person game.

The actual session? Hilarious. The actual tiles fell so smooth. Had the totem and outside before burning the deck once. Found the graveyard before getting through the deck twice. And then? Chaos.

To win, we had to resolve an event on the graveyard, have someone fight and live. Over and over we'd get to fighting, and everyone would of course promise to fight, and then all but one would flee. My wife was the first casualty. The demoer was the next. We whittled it down until there was only 1 card left and 3 of us to fight, so we emerged with a shared victory.

The demo player had a great time... and then walked off without buying. Don't ya know how it goes? I think I say 5 copies of the resistance sold in that time though.

So, funny story about this game. Turns out, Fantasy Flight has the license now and released a new edition at GenCon. The box and bits are tiny; the box is the size of Pickimino or Pick Picnic. The penguins are still 3-d plastic sculptures *and* they colored the fish different on the 1, 2 and 3 fish tiles to tell them apart. Sweet!

BUT MayFair still had many copies of the Deluxe edition with giant penguins for sale. They decided to mark them down to the same price, so both editions were available for $12. I gave into the deluxe since I figured it'll be harder to come by in the future.

They had a "duel" version of Mind Flex, which was kind of like "tug-of-war" for your brain.

My wife and I dueled a couple times. She was easily kicking my ass each time, but then started laughing. Once she laughed, it was all over and I cleaned up.

Best line of the hall? Demo man says: "This little girl keeps coming back for more demos and beating everyone. I asked her how, and she just says: 'I scream in my head'"

Awesome.

Back to the library for us. Checked this out since I wanted to try it. Odd mix of great and poor components. Really modular game with all sorts of optional rules.

We went bare-bones racing style. 50 seconds was supposed to be easy, but it still seemed absolutely damned fast for me.

Still, it was really quite the fun time. Setup was a little bitch, but gameplay went smooth. It also wrapped up quickly unlike something like Roborally. Still, it wasn't stellar enough for me to buy it.

I thought Eric might go 3 for 3 with me. (Amorica and Cambria were both big hits)

Hibernia was... okay. I think I just don't like "dudes on a map" no matter how euro-fied it is and how much you alter the scoring.

It did play smooth and easy though. This printing was pretty good, but wouldn't have worked for a color blind player (We found that out yesterday).

Still, if you like a good Waro, this would be a great Waro-filler.

We'd been playing the last couple games with Patrick, when he finally mentioned he had a game debuting at GenCon from Minion games. He'd donated a copy to the Library, so we told him to go pull it out and let's try it.

The Art, Theme and Gameplay were very well integrated into a solid presentation. It was all about getting fired from a convenience store and taking as much valuable as you could on your way out.

Each player got a unique ability. You took turns moving around the store stealing things and slacking off. There were a deck of take that cards that often moved the boss around to bust people. There were a couple other ways to make points as well.

After playing for a bit, I mentioned how weak the "slacking off" action seemed, and Patrick admits they nerfed it at the last minute and might have gone too far. (I'd say they went way too far.) He was going to post up a variant to boost it's power again.

Played my nice new copy. Patrick kicked our asses.

That's okay though, I'd pulled off a surprise win in his own Five-Fingered game.

My wife and I had only played this 2 player. Patrick wanted to play some, so out it came.

The first game was a 3 player affair that went pretty smoothly. My wife was reading the cards carefully and really laid the smack down with some science points for the win.

The second game expanded to 6 players. I thought it was a lot better with 6 actually, which isn't usually what I think of games. Only seeing parts of the deck and never getting your hand back was really cool. I had everything fall perfectly into place and managed to win on a tie break. (Often forgotten rule: No DUPLICATE CARDS)

We didn't try the Leaders yet, but I think that they'll have to get used next time.

My wife's verdict? Meh. Just not enough really to do. Each turn was mostly about picking what gave the most points. There wasn't as much to consider about card interactions as something like RftG. She also just didn't get much enjoyment out of the hate drafting portion.

I have to agree, I enjoyed the game, but it wasn't jaw dropping.

After dinner got in a 3-player game of Steam. Due to a slight misreading of the rules, we played with 10 few too many cubes. This really made the end of the game tight so we cut a couple turns off. I ran away with it, mostly due to getting a rich area of the board to myself and ramping to a six locomotive quickly. I am a little disturbed about how possible this is still with a 3-player game. But I liked how much faster the 3-player game was than 4+ players.

I also still found the VP/Income split silly. There was never any thought put into which track to advance. It was all but blatantly obvious. At that point, what did you gain from splitting them?

I personally enjoy playing steam with:

►New steam roles and no auction.
►Old AoS Income/Shares rules with income reduction.

But that's just me
