I was watching the scifi channel yesterday and was reminded of two scifi series I followed in the 1990s that got cancelled - Alien Nation and Earth 2. Which got me thinking of what we might have missed in terms of scifi sagas (pretty depressing) that got canned early! Some earned a conclusion more graceful than others, mind you...

On this list you can nominate your favourite scifi/fantasy TV series that got canned too soon. I have added a few of my own favourites to get you rolling.

Nominations end Sunday at 21 EST
. After that I will set up the first voting round. NOMINATION PERIOD OVER.

PLEASE VOTE HERE

V: The Visitors (reimagined)

We were very disappointed to this show to be cancelled on a cliffhanger.

Also it's another Morena Baccarin series cancelled too soon.

VR.5 was a funky show about conspiracies surrounding control of an immersive virtual reality system that could actually interact with people's subconsciouses over the phone. From the days of cradle-modems and crude computer graphics came this interesting if somewhat uneven show. Three of the thirteen episodes didn't air originally, and it's still not available on DVD. It starred a bunch of genre stalwarts: Lori Singer, Michael Easton, Will Patton, Lois Fletcher, Anthony Steward Head, and David McCallum

On a personal note, in the early-ish days of the "World Wide Web" and Internet fandom, when message boards were more the thing, I wrote an episode guide and FAQ for this show. Bits of those original docs were taken into the main FAQ (sections 1.5 and 1.11) , which can still be found here: http://www.vx1.net/void/vr5faq.txt

VIRTUALITY

Continuing the BSG theme, a Ronald D. Moore one-shot pilot that seemed like it should have been given a chance to develop (between this and 17th Precinct it seems he should be given more faith by the networks after the success of BSG). The show was about the crew of a long-haul space mission that were using VR suites for R&R but questions of what is and is not real begin to arise.

Clearly an "Incredible Hulk" ripoff in design, this show was darker, better written and with better effects. The werewolf transformation scenes alone made it worth watching. A DVD was planned and almost came out but (of course) due to soundtrack copyright issues it has been canned.

The inestimable David Rappaport as a genius inventor doing good versus evil. It may fall a little short of the SciFi/Fantasy specification, but no more than others on this list.

The human race, to which so many of my readers belong, has been playing at children's games from the beginning, and will probably do it till the end, which is a nuisance for the few people who grow up. - GKC

Pretender

The movies seemed to deviate even further from the show that kept presenting more questions than answers. Couldn't they just wrap it up nicely when they had the chance?
