You could say I am a game churner. I've certainly owned more games than I have kept. As I write this, according to my stats here on BGG, I have previously owned 537 games, while I currently own 294 games.

But as it happens a number of games I have previously owned, are actually currently owned too. Indeed, I sometimes have a bit of remorse for ditching a game, and end up getting it again.

In this geeklist I thought I might list games I have opted to acquire a second time, and mention why that is. Perhaps you might care to do as well? Just in case, I will leave the list open for your contribution(s).

I removed Civilization and Advanced Civilization from my library back around 2002 or so. I had discovered German games in 1999, and was really collecting a lot of games. At the time I thought I was done with older longer games, so I either sold or traded it away, never expecting to miss it.

But a few years later, I found I was missing Civ, and reacquired it. I've only played Advanced Civ once in recent years, and I honestly doubt I will play it all that often. But I like owning it - it belongs on my bookshelf, and I would happily play it given some interest from my cadre of likely players.

I removed Berserker from my game shelf a long time ago. But i recently met the widow of Fred Saberhagen, who made a point of giving me this game based on his stories. How could I refuse?

Britannia was a game that I always wanted to play a lot more of than I could ever arrange to actually do. Eventually I removed it from my collection. But when the new version was released, I couldn't resist and bought it again. Fortunately it has seen a few plays. I'm keeping it, as I continue to want to play it.

I've owned it twice. I still haven't figured it out. But I love the theme, and maybe someday I will find enough 'umph' to get this played. But probably a permanent dust collector on my shelf.

I am rather pleased at how much more fun I have had with this game on its second tour through my collection. Largely I attribute my enhanced pleasure to trying the advanced "Bookie Game".

Years ago, after I discovered German/Euro games I went on a jag of collecting all of the SdJ winners. Heimlich passed through my collection relatively quickly. More recently I've been having fun exploring 90's games. I'm enjoying playing these earlier German games that seem to be based around a single cool idea.

I traded this away, after deciding the game was flawed. But I ended thinking about this game, and decided the unexpected theme of recreating the 1st Crusade was pretty fabulous, And I knew I really liked the graphic style of the game and the fact that game this was the predecessor to Wallenstein. So it's sitting on the shelf ready to go.

I owned this game a long time ago, and only played it once. Initially I found it somewhat annoying, a mass of competing colors, and a need to count endlessly to make a good move. So off it went.

A few years later, I was finding myself playing a lot more of Martin Wallace's games, so I finally grabbed a Warfrog edition copy in a Math Trade once its value came back to reasonable, due to the new edition.

I have played it once since it returned, and I didn't find the game as hard to process as I had recalled. I'm hoping to play more of it.

Meander was a game I blogged about having removed from my collection recently. I found myself missing it more after recalling the game. It's a neat idea, a gravity test of the routes each player makes: one North-South, the other East-West. It's still stupid big for what it is. But I like having it again.

I gave my first copy as a gift to a friend who I regularly game with. He really liked it, so it saw frequent play. Eventually I realized I wanted another copy to keep on my own game shelf. Siesta more than any other abstract made me rethink my stated dislike of abstracts. Turns out I am warming up to them, much to my surprise.

I owned this game, and while it was pretty to look at, I never did play it. But reading the rules, it struck me that the game had a big flaw, you only get a turn when the ghost approaches your pawn... So that would mean, you could in theory never have a turn! So eventually I traded it.

But this year I got interested in the Edition Perlhuhn games, as issued by Franckh. White Lady was offered in a big lot of games, so here it is again. As it is part of a larger collection now, I expect to keep it. I also intend to actually try playing it this time.

While there are a reasonable number of games I let go, and then re-acquire, they have a very strong tendency to leave my collection again soon thereafter.

I suspect that will be the case here - my interest was re-ignited by a trip to London, but seems to be fading again. But for now, it's still in my collection.

This is an odd case - I'd played the prototype many times, and knew I liked the game - but the original dice were almost unreadable, and so I let it go. I won another copy in the only BGG contest I've ever won, and - they'd fixed the dice. Or I was more fortunately with this copy. But in either event, it pushed the game up enough in playability for me as to be fairly secure in my collection now.
