Every now and then, there's a game that is just great, you like everything about it, despite the terrible, terrible theme--a theme that normally would push you away from a game forever, but somehow, this game draws you in anyways.

African traders? I guess. Why does the guy on the cover look so happy to be at the market? The theme seems really friendly, and really sort of tame and lame to me. But the game has some nice, cutthroat aspects. I guess themes for trading games are kind of tough. But for some reason I really like being a bean farmer in Bohnanza. Despite the fact that the theme pushed me away for a while, this is a nice game. Really fun for a quick diverson.

Quarry? Quay? Gloriousness? What the heck is the theme for this game anyways. This game is just aching for a decent backstory. This seems to be a problem with many deck/dice building games. Dominion is generic enough that you can sort of imagine in any medieval/fantasy story. Ascension's got a bit more, but leave you wondering where this void came from, and what are we really doing anyways. Quarriors takes it to an extreme. The game just gives you a few bare hints as to what the backstory is. I want to know more! What is this "wilds." Where did these quarry dice come from. What exactly is a Quarrior?

Nonetheless, awesome game.

I'm sorry but the whole "allegiances are constantly in flux as the forces of good and evil battle for supremacy on the icy plains of Yinsh" thing seems tacked on to me. YMMV. Great game though.
