This list is inspired by the following thread You know what we need... about specially designing games as Halloween handouts. The focus of the original idea was games that use candy as a component. But non-candy games made to be handouts are acceptable for this list too.

Great thanks to all who put forward the time and effort to make something special for the season!

This is still a PnP game and a WIP, but I think any good DIY gamer can make the 3 dice and have fun before this Halloween!

Quick explanation:
Players roll 3 custom dice to get a MONSTER that can then GRAB, STEAL, and EAT munchies from the POT. It is best played with the varieties of Trick-or-Treat loot your kids come home with, because each player then has a choice of what treats they want to grab from the big pile of goodies in the middle of the table.

The rules are here:

The file needed to make 3 dice is here: (It has 6 dice worth of images on it, even though you only need three dice to play) This file is made for 3/4 inch dice. I suggest printing them out, slicing up the sides carefully with an X-Acto knife and gluing them on wood cubes with good 'ol Elmers glue. If yo do, spaying the dice with an acrylic clear-cote helps preserve the dice.

Good luck!
Let me know what you think Halloweeeeeners! I'm still considering self-publishing this game just like my last custom dice game Fishfry Thanks for your input!

Each packet would have 2 cards, instructions and a pack of candy (either M&Ms, Mike & Ikes, or Hershey's Kisses (or other small chocolate)) and a couple cheap d6.

Just recently came across this PnP game. As it is, it's a bit larger than would be good for a Halloween handout, but it could be easily made smaller and used with different candies as the pieces (two players, three different types of pieces).

Though I've not played it, it seems to be a chess-like game, so may not be the quick and easy type of game that the really small kids could get into.

This is a game I made while waiting for a bus, my original intent was to print off a bunch of them, bag them with a d6 and distribute them to my neighbourhood's civic association and the local library for Halloween activities.

I failed to realize how busy this week was for me though, and I didn't have time to communicate this to who I needed to or physically make them.

I'm still interested in feedback, as I do plan to revisit this in a few weeks when my schedule dies down a bit. Late though it may be, there'll be more Halloweens.

Candy Collectors Game

by John Buenavides

Each player brings any number of small candies to form his “candy pile” (8 to 12 pieces: about 3-4 pieces of 3 different types of candy is recommended); the contents of the candy pile is hidden from other players. Combine each player’s 2x4 subgrids together to form a grid. Starting with the first player, each player performs the following steps, in order:

1. No Candy? If you have no candy in your pile, you lose the game. If there is only one player left, proceed to Determine the Winner; otherwise, skip to step 5.

2. Place Candy. You select one candy from your pile, and place it on an empty spot on the grid.

3. Full Grid? If there are no more empty spots, proceed to Determine the Winner

4. Set of Three or More? If there are three or more matching candy pieces in adjacent spots, you take those candies and put them in your pile.

5. Next player takes his turn (doing steps 1-5 above)

Determine the Winner

1. If there is only one player left, then that player wins the game.

2. When the grid is full, the player with the LEAST amount of candy in their remaining candy pile wins the game.

3. In case of a tie, every player (even those who lost) gets the candy on their 2x4 subgrid.

The Prize: The winner gets ALL the candy on the grid.

Downloads:
Version 1.2 on Google Docs produces two copies of the game with the full version of the rules, FAQ, variants, and assembly instructions -- enough for 2 players who are new to the game.

There is also a Mass Production Layout (Version 1.3) on Google Docs that produces four copies of the game with just the rules; perfect for 4 players, or to distribute the game to many people

Possibly a bit too complex for a handout. But does look to be a good Halloween party game and it does use candy.

Bit too elaborate to give as a handout possibly. But I know how ambitious some of us get.

Mint Works is a neet little candy game that does not need the tin. So would make a great handout with or without tin.

I made these for my Halloween Treats this year! It's my re-theme of Hasch Misch! I used SOLO Cups and my kids cut out self-adhesive foam pieces to decorate them. I cut a cardboard circle out and taped that to close up the bottom of the cup after I put the components in. The die and felt in the picture is of the original Hasch Misch Mini Tin Game but I'm replacing these today with my own dice and orange or purple felt circles...just in time for Halloween!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
CATCH THE CANDY GAME
CAUTION – WATCH YOUR CHILDREN UNDER 3 YEARS OF AGE, SMALL PARTS COULD BE A CHOKING HAZARD!
Components – 1 die, 5 strings of different colors with candy attached at one end and a matching bead on the other end, 1 felt circle, 1 decorated Halloween cup
Setup
Set the felt circle on a table/floor. For each Candy player, place 1 candy piece on the felt circle with the candy ends towards the middle and with the strings and bead ends dangling out the sides. Set the decorated cup and die to the side for the Bat/Pumpkin player.
Rules
1 player is the Bat/Pumpkin and tries to catch the candy. This player rolls the die and tries to catch the corresponding colored candy with the cup before they escape off of the felt circle. On a roll of Bat/Pumpkin, this player tries to catch as many candy pieces as possible. If there is no corresponding color candy being played in the current game, roll again! Be sure all candy is back on the felt circle each time before you roll the die. Be sure to roll the die in a place that everyone can see it. +1 point for every successful piece of candy caught. – 1 point for each time you miss. No score below 0.
All other players are Candy each trying to keep from being caught by the Bat/Pumpkin. Each Candy player picks one candy piece to play and puts it on the felt circle with the bead end out. These players have to watch the die roll carefully and quickly pull their candy piece off of the felt circle by the bead end if their color is rolled. On a roll of Bat/Pumpkin, every candy player is at risk of being caught. +1 pt. for the candy player each time they successfully escape the Bat/Pumpkin. – 1 pt. if you pull your piece off the felt when your color or bat/pumpkin is not rolled. No score below 0.
First player to 10 pts. is the winner and then a new Bat/Pumpkin player is chosen.
Notes
You can of course eat the candy pieces when you are done with the game. BUT DON’T EAT THE DIE! You can replace them later by taping another small piece of candy to the strings. I hope you enjoy the game!
