for driving the Pandemic point home.

I will get in touch with the winners via geekmail shortly.

Dear BGG,

My games collection is going to reach three hundred games, and I would like to celebrate and thank all of BGG for being such an awesome community.

For this I would like to set up the following contest: Add a game to this geeklist, and if you add the most convincing argument that gets me to buy it, I will get a copy shipped to you, free of charge, worldwide.

As of the timescale, will try get the game before the end of November.

I enjoy euros, but not exclusively, I'd try pretty much everything (wargame, thematic ...) this is the opportunity to show off your hidden gem and get another copy !

PS: Most of my gaming is two players, so a game that plays well with two is pretty much a requirement.

PPS: I will subjectively pick the winner, as he will have given me what I feel was the most compelling reason to choose the game. If you cannot handle this fact please refrain from participating.

Update

I will announce the winner on the 5th of November 2011

some precisions/hints as to what I a more likely to choose or not
- games with half decent availability.
- must play well with two
- reasonable playing time (say under three hours, so it can be played in an evening)

Feel free to surprise me on theme and mechanics. For information, what has worked well for us in the past is worker placement, economic engines, conflicts, area majority, ...

I did vaguely toy with the idea of adding something Spartan-orientated to fit in with the 300 theme but decided this was a link too far.

Instead I'm going to add one that I haven't played but which looks great: Dragonheart. If you play a lot of two-player games (and I do) then you'll know that the Kosmos two-player series contains a number of real gems, and none which are clunkers (though some I like less than others, none is a bad game). So I would urge you to go for this one, cos then I get to try it out too!

(Though I have to admit, Alien Frontiers, already listed, would also be an excellent choice, and I have played that, though I would say it's better with more players than two).

I say Steam Over Holland. It's a lighter game in the 18xx series (if you guys can do Roads & Boats you can SOH).

It's a fantastic game that is not too harsh (but can be).

The stock market aspect is fast and simple, but still offers room for depth and manipulation.

The quality of the bits is very high, the game is quite beautiful and the box is gorgeous.

And it's about Holland, the greatest place on Earth

This should be releasing real soon, and you don't have any hidden movement games in your collection, at least none I could tell when I scanned what you own. And with only two sides (teams) in this game, it makes it a fantastic game for 2-player, which some reviewers said they prefer over 3 or 4. When you add more players, you are splitting up the duties of each side.

The components and board look great, and the theme is based off the Legend of the Five Rings campaign setting, which gives you plenty of back story and history if you want it, though it is not necessary in order to play this game. Something you might want to check out.

Solitary game for times when you want to game and there's no one around who is interested (my continuing problem). It's a GMT game which I noticed you had a few. It's gotten great reviews and I have it however it has yet to make it to the table as things always seem to come up. It might be something that you'd find interesting.

This may not be your 300th game. It would depend on post-Essen availability. But this is my most anticipated game for my son and I. The fact that it can take up to 4 players is a bonus but this will mainly be played as a two player.

I got this one recently and am really enjoying it. A one player vs. everyone else deduction game.

One player is Jack the ripper trying to make it home to his hideout each night while the other player(s) is the detectives trying to hone in on his home base and capture him. It can be pretty tense, especially for the Jack player. It plays really well with 2 and generally moves pretty quick.

I am not seeming to be a huge dungeon crawl fan in general
i do enjoy a game of HeroClix or Mage Knight Dungeons
but they are a bit to get into and at least for me i have a group i game with and the host has a bunch

i enjoyed playing Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Board Game enough that if i did buy this type of game this would be the most likely

at any rate i hope you pick me because my birthday is around the corner on all saints day

but i am still a novice at knowing what games are even out there

good luck and maybe one day i too will reach 300 games

Okay, so now I need to convince you that THIS is the #300 game you absolutely MUST own? I submit to you 5 universally accepted truths which cannot be argued against and which clearly demonstrate this game's worthiness as your #300:

Universally accepted truth #1 - This is a great 2 player game.
You mentioned that most of your games are 2 players, but this offers an enhanced yet variable dynamic with up to 5! (At least that's what the review said that I glanced at before writing this.)

Universally accepted truth #2 - This game is easily found anywhere in the world.
It is not rare, OOP or obscure, but is readily available worldwide. (After all, as long as you've got internet and a credit card, you can order it from Amazon no matter where in the world you're at, right?)

Universally accepted truth #3 - My sister has this game.
I know this for a fact because I bought it for her last Christmas. (Whether or not that is a compelling reason for you to make it your 300th game or not is up to you...or my sister...or somebody.)

Universally accepted truth #4 - I would like a copy of this game.
That fact cannot be disputed and is accepted by me and my three friends no matter where I am in the universe. (Honestly, the fact that my sister owns a game that I don't have really bugs me, and the thought of obtaining my own copy for free is really tempting.)

Universally accepted truth #5 - This game will cost you less to ship to me than Space Hulk.
This is true regardless of which edition of Space Hulk you choose to ship and whether the figures are painted or not, because paint just isn't heavy enough to make a huge difference on weight. (Yes, if Space Hulk reaches the free shipping threshold it would technically be "cheaper", but I'm talking total cost of game included. Sheesh, don't be so technical!)

A) Your collection says you have 398 games, thats two to go!
B) Crap. You already have Taluva, my go to game for recommendations.

C) I'm going to recommend Biblios. It's a great game, and fast. I love the two phases of the game. First you build up a collection of cards, deciding which categories you want to collect, let your opponents have, or put in the auction pile. Now you have an idea of which categories you're strong in, and you try to pick them up in the auction phase.

Given your love of El Grande and it's area majority goodness I have to suggest Belfort. But not just area majority you get some killer worker placement and screwage via the interactive guilds. I say that you seem to enjoy some Dominant species which is another area majority/WP game. Belfort really was surprisingly great, delivers some very familiar things in an exciting new ways and is an all around fantastic game. You need this...I think with your ratings you are going to have a new favorite game.

I mainly play 2 players as well and while this one has a 2 player variant it is just that...a variant. I'm not sure how it will hold up 2 player but the game is still a great one and you should at least be looking into it.

I would suggest you getting an LCG. I saw that you gave pretty high grades to conflict games so this should be right up your alley. The theme is similar to Chaos in the Old World which gets a pretty big 9 in your book, so I think you will not have any thematic problems. Actually, I believe this one is more GF-friendly than CitOW. If you add elves, they always score big with the ladies.

As far as working with 2, this one works exclusively with 2, although on the box it says different. The core set alone should last you quite a few games and than you can just buy some of the big expansions to give yourself some variety for deck-building and try new strategies.

If you want one that works with more than 2 (3-4) look at A Game of Thrones: The Card Game which should also be thematically appealing given the recent success of the HBO series. This one works with 2 as well, but the core set is rumored to be slightly unbalanced in that regard (though my experience does not show it in the few 1v1 games I played).

I think this should be your 300th game because you have nothing similar to an LCG, it provides a good, quick, deep and dare I say portable gaming experience for 2 or more players and I love the customization options that you can get with just 2 core sets or some big expansions. Oh, and did I mention that both games are awesome? They are!

I was really torn between this and Le Havre, both are fascinating worker placement (sort of?) games that play very well with two people. Troyes is shorter though, and is my favorite new game from 2010, so it wins out. It has lots of neat things:

-Dice! (and manages to use dice in a way that minimizes luck complaints!)
-Player interaction--steal dice from other players! Well, you have to pay for them and it can be costly, but your dice may not be safe.
-The board is working against you, at least a little bit. There are events that come out every round that are usually negative for the players. Players can work together to eliminate them.
-Hidden information, in that you have certain end game victory bonuses that everyone benifits from, but each player only knows the one he was dealt. You have to watch what the other players are doing to try to figure out the others.
-The game is different every time, based upon what cards come out for you to play on. Each color dice has a "theme" that unifies the cards, but you can play with a different set each game.

Plus it is just a ton of fun!

This is just a fantastic game. Me and my wife absolutely love it. It's got enough meaningful decisions to keep me interested, but it isn't so complex as to scare the wifey off. The playing time is not so short as to categorize it as a filler, but it isn't going to take you all night to play it either. As a matter of fact it is just the right length for 2 or 3 consecutive plays, and believe me you will want to play it consecutively. It is tile laying done right. Get Carcassonne right out of your head. The fact that this game has tiles is about all the two games have in common.

If you read about the game for two you will hear about the dummy player. I generally hate dummy players, but don't let the dummy "player" scare you away in this game. It's just a dice that gets rolled when it is its turn and it eats up tiles so that you can't just grab any tile you want. No babysitting or cheapness with the dummy player involved here. It doesn't bring the game down whatsoever for two players. In fact, I might say this game is best for two as the downtime is significantly reduced.

And if that isn't enough you get to make whiskey in this game. Who wouldn't want to buy a game where you get to make whiskey?

I see a lot of highly-rated abstracts in your list. This one is an adorable, highly accessible version of miniature shogi, designed for teaching to children, but I think it makes a great filler for adults. You can knock off a game in about five minutes.

Or, of course, you can upgrade to the full version...

I'm surprised this game isn't in your collection yet!

It's theme is the British battling the French in the 18th century in what is now North America.

In thi card driven game, the mechanics borrow from Dominion, and it plays only with 2 people.

You can settle peacefully, or you can try to seige your opponent in different cities.

One of the better games to come out in 2011.

This one looks like it scratches lots of itches. Can be played solo, coop, semi coop, full competetive. Great artwork, well executed theme, lots of replay value, ...
Also mixes Eurogameish stuff like prestige and VPs with fierce battles as far as I can tell from the rules.
