Mark, Josh and Jack joined me for my 2nd play of WotRoses in as many weeks.
A random draw of characters saw Mark and I join forces for York against the boy's Lancaster.
The first turn saw several of the Welsh cards come into play with only the odd card for some of the higher scoring regions. Mark set off into the lead. By the end of Turn 3 the scores were extremely spread out with Mark way out in front, then me, then Josh, with Jack a long way back having lost some of his prize assets.
At this point Jack took French Aid for 25 cash, Josh took it for 20ish cash and I took it for about 15 cash. It was time to stop Mark. Having supported my fellow Lancastrian it was time to spend all my money to get back into the game. Josh and I both hit Mark hard in Turn 4, but Jack instead sneaked a couple of my undefended locations which linked well with his own holdings. Despite spending all my money I didn't make much head way on the scoring. Jack crept upto just behing me. Mark was crippled and had been over-taken by Josh. Josh and Mark were about 15-20 points ahead of me and Jack.
Turn 5, I decided to go for Josh as Mark didn't look to have enough influence on the board to score well. Mark attacked Josh thinking it was his only chance to win. Josh defended very well. Which all meant that Jack took a few more assets from us all. Despite being 20 points behind, he then romped passed us all in the final scoring.
Jack (Lancaster): 138 James (York): 115 Josh (Lancaster): 113 Mark (York): 98
Another win for the Red Rose.
I think the boys enjoyed the game. Jack was talking about it well after we arrived home. He kept saying 'Epic' which I think described his view on his planning of his final turn which couldn't have gone much better.
Next time we'll keep an eye out for how well the back-marker is actually doing.
With about 90 minutes remaining and the others still deep into their game, I offerd an older game that I had not played, another unusual game from Leo Colovini.
Not a bad game, and like all Colovini games it is interesting (to me at least) and somewhat quirky but would need to play a couple more times at least to see what I really think of the game, but have I got the game playing time to do so?
