7 of us were around to have a first dig at the new Essen acquisitions. Even though some older games made it into the lineup, we spent just under 7 hours with 'em

This is one crazy number. We managed to get to get to the second but last monster of the game on normal difficulty, without too many crazy rolls. Everybody had fun even though this is definitely one that gets more enjoyable when you can actually gauge how to roll the dice to at least within a couple of inches of the target. Some people were still rolling it all over the place, throwing too hard, or too soft to hit the target. Some combos also are quite impossible (Roll off your nose and bounce the die off your head, anyone?)
A solid opener which got everyone in the mood for more.

Once we figured out how exactly the speculate action worked, we got going. While the twists can give this game a bit of replay value, I feel, at this point, that there is not going to be that much replay value within one single group as most of the enjoyment of the game came from pronouncing the ludicrous inventions you go through. Once you've seen most, or all, of those I feel that this might drop off rather sharply.

I felt that this one was stronger in the first half, the moving walls and lava pit, than the second half, around the river.
I chose to stay light going for treasure here and there and dropping some to remain able to have loads of actions. The dice didn't play in my favour, not penalizing the looters, and the cards did not allow me to get alot of useful treasure (I drew 4 2 pointers and one 3 pointer)
Some of the thrill remained throughout, like when two players decided to go for the big treasure in the last bend of the boulder track, and the latter got pretty close to them. But this is one that I'm glad I didn't pick up when it was presented at Spiel '09.

This proved to be as much, if not more, fun than I'd expected when I read about the game before Essen.
The game is easily explained, and provides a lot to think about. One of the players was caught out in his corner while 3 of us were fighting over the relic. He thought that you needed to get the relic to your ship three times with different coloured aliens, getting a relic marker each time you do so. In the end, I needed a triple move on a die to get the relic away from a player and onto my ship, which earned me the victory.
The really enjoyable thing about this is that it looks really simple, but the combination of colours and limited possibility movement and action cards make it a real challenge.

To end the session we played a game of this.
I'd heard of it before and we much enjoyed the relentless attempted murder spree that the game revolves around.
I felt that the early game was busy trying to get out of each others sights and firing a couple of early warning shots to get the fail cards out of the system, with the game really heating up once the cards become thinner. The location specific cards are a little too dependent on the luck of the draw in general though. Time for house rules maybe.
