Welcome back everybody. Today's is another one from Dimitri and while this question isn't one that is going to be a big answer one I knew exactly what I wanted to post the moment I saw it.

What's your favorite name for a game, regardless of whether you like it or not?

Have at it guys.

Yes I love the name Hart an der Grenze. Definitely my favorite name for a game AND I like the game too. Roughly translated this means "Dos Enchiladas." Which is interesting because based on the components of the game there are no enchiladas what-so-ever in the game. Sure there's sombreros that smell like enchiladas. Maracas filled with enchilada sauce. Not mention the jugs that can be filled with enchiladas but as I say at it's base. No enchiladas. That makes the name clever to me. Dos Enchiladas...Hart an der Grenze. That's just silly.

What can I say?

I actually have a game called "Stacking Naked People" that someone got for me at Christmas years ago. I need to get a picture of it and put it into the Geek database.

There must have been a moment at the beginning, where we could have said no. Somehow we missed it. Well, we'll know better next time.

I like the original German title, Die Burgen von Burgund.
Rolls off the tongue nicely. Makes me think of burgers, and then I get hungry.

Close second is
Paranoia Mandatory Bonus Fun! Card Game
which sounds to me like those bad English translations on signs in Japan.

I brought this one with me to Brazil, and it was a hit. I had managed to play it a bit before getting the "innuendo" to the name.

Everyone had a great time making dick jokes, and it made them more receptive to try other games (not more suited, unfortunately - I brought Imperial in my carryon to Brazil for nothing).

The first night we were making up names for the sequels, like
Dixit 3: Choke on It
and
Dixit 4: Where does this one go?

I don't remember the rest because by the time we had funny ones for the later sequels quite a bit of chachaca had disappeared.

So, I'd say Dos Enchiladas too, but that's not really 'it's name'. And as far as nick names, I guess I can't claim Pooping Donkey's either.

So, I'll go with Can't Stop, a title of a game that's so fitting for the game itself that you can't stop saying it while playing.

Wargame titles tend to run from the bland and descriptive ("The Russian Campaign") to the silly and/or somewhat offensive ("Conflict of Heroes", for a tactical game on German/Soviet combat in WW II). Still others merely borrow titles from movies or books on the same topic ("The Longest Day").

Sometimes they manage to be evocative and fitting. TFH is one of these, based of course on the Winston Churchill quote. The game within is a mishmash of the first generation Europa rules and at least two completely different games, never played (not by me, at least.)

Runner ups:

"Paths of Glory" - a great double meaning, a call back to the film (also about World War I) and a reference to the fact that it is a point-to-point movement game ("paths").

"A Victory Lost"

"Up Against the Wall, M*****f*****" - a game on the '68 Chicago riots that appeared in one of the earliest Strategy and Tactics.

I love saying, I love reading it...over and over and over and over again. Which leaves me no time to actually play the game. Can't wait to do that.

Honorable mention goes to Bamboleo, a name that reminds me of a Spanish song my mother likes (one with the word bamboleo in the lyrics). When I mention the game, I tend to say it as it is sung in that song.

I know this doenst seem to fit on this list. However, I think its pretty much perfect. This name out right lays down the theme and meaning of the game itself. When you see the name you immediately thing....Warhammer....Chaos....blah blah. I was pretty turned off by it all because I am just not into WH2K etc.

But when you open it op and see that board with the human skin stretched out and a map painted on it you cant help but thing...holy S---. I bet whatever caused someone to create that map was crazy...perhaps....chaotic?

The game has a pretty chaotic system that is brilliantly balanced (IMO) and leaves so much room for different player styles. Many would say that each player type pushes for one play style...well...duh? Isnt that sort of the point? Isnt that how the designers fit the theme so perfectly into this "Old World"?

I like this title. It sounds like a b movie sci-fi film from the 50's or 60's. As a kid I watched a bunch of those films.....Earth Versus The Flying Saucers, Earth Versus The Spider, Them, The Angry Red Planet, This Island Earth, When Worlds Collide, etc, etc.
