This week I got challenged by Hendrik Simon to play a PBeM match of his game Plateau X. I accepted. And I quite like the idea of me as a BGG user (aka 'Geek') to be playing a game against the person that designed it.

I've now made this GeekList in the hopes that more designers will challenge BGG'er to play games against them. So designers, let's get this thing of the ground!

I can totally imagine that in the future there'll be challenges of not just a single Geek against a designer, but all Geeks against the designer. A bit like in chess where a grandmaster takes on 'the world'. With some Geek experts suggesting moves, and all other Geeks being able to thumb their preferred move..

Cheers,
Martijn

Interesting timing. I had posted a geeklist of games where I mentioned I would be playing Whistling Death at BGG.CON, that I would be using 1/72 scale miniatures, but that I was having a bit of time wrapping my head around the rules. The designer contacted me via Geekmail and set up a game with me just this last Tuesday (two days ago).

It was a great experience, and there's no finer honor in the gaming world than when a designer seeks you out based on something you say about their game, and offers to teach it to you. (I've had other great experiences similarly with the designer, and the publisher of The Resistance, and the designer of Panic Station, though I did not actually play a game with them).

The original Geeklist entry: Games I intend to play at BGG.CON
The session report I wrote up after the game: My first two flights against the designer.
and my review of the game afterward: User Review - or, How to spend your winter vacation.

Is anyone interested in challenging me to a game of Pari? It is a game of mathematical equations - few rules, many possibilities. Up to five of you could play against me. You can find the rules on the game's page.

Only problem is: It is a card game. In this version (unless we find a referee), we would have to play with open cards, which might be an interesting experience anyway.

Edit: I could assign a number to each card and each player can add a couple of geekrolls to his or her moves to find out the cards s/he draws. Doesn't even sound that difficult.

So Hilko (user HilkMAN) and me will be playing a match of my game Tix. We'll be playing our game on one of the 'exclusive editions' of the game. I'll will post photos every now and then to show how the game progresses.

Move notation:
- Board with 'chess' coordinates (A-F and 1-6)
- Possible actions: place, move, activate, pickup, pass
- Since chaining moves is possible, a single turn can consist of multiple moves.

Some examples:
placeC3
moveC3C1
moveE3F3-pass
moveC1F1-pickupA1

I also write the number of the move and the initial letter of the name, as in chess notation: 1H.placeD2.

Hilko will go first.

Moves:
1H.placeA4 1M.placeD2
2H.placeD4 2M.placeD6
3H.placeB6 3M.placeF1
4H.placeC5 4M.placeC3
5H.moveA4A3 5M.placeA1
6H.placeF6 6M.moveF1F2
7H.placeE5 7M.placeE1
8H.moveB6B1-pickupC5 8M.moveF2F4
9H.moveE5B5 9M.moveE1F1
10H.placeA6 10M.placeE3
11H.moveB5F5-pickupF6 11M.moveD2A2-activateC3
12H.placeC5 12M.moveF1E1
13H.moveA6A5 13M.moveE1F1
14H.placeB6 14M.moveE3E5-pickupD6
15H.moveA5A4-pickupB1 15M.placeE3
16H.placeC1 16M.moveE3E4-pickupA2
17H.moveB6B3-activateC5 17M.placeE2
18H.moveC1C2-pickupD4 18M.placeD1
19H.placeD6 19M.moveE2E3-pickupE4
20H.placeE2 20M.moveF1F2-activateA1
21H.moveC5C4-pickupA3 21M.placeB6
Hilko conceded as it's good game from here on for Martijn. Onto the rematch!

Second match between Martinus and HilkMAN. I think it is easier to follow if we start a new entry for this. Send me your move when you are ready, Martijn.
