At BGG you find many creative minds. And they prodruce good ideas to make a nice game even nicer. So here it is:

Best pimped boardgame of the month, October 2011, 14th edition

How to submit an image of your pimped boardgame?

Just add a geeklist item, where it asks for a ImageID add the number of your photo there. Use [imageid=xxxxxx medium] in the body of the List Entry, where "xxxxxx" is the ImageID number, to show the image at a reasonable size as that helps people judge your image better, and make sure to remove the space. If you have questions please geekmail me and I will help.

Rules:

1) You can submit up to 3 entries.

2) Each entry can contain up to 2 images.

3) That image(s) has to be one of your own. If you like a pimped game of another user, please ask for permission to submission.

4) The image(s) was uploaded during the month in question.

5) Images from your User Gallery are eligible, and images from any other Gallery.

7) It is possible to include a link to a geeklist or a thread, where you find more details about the pimped boardgame.

8) Users may vote for (give a thumb up to) as many entries as they wish.

9) Winners will be declared when the next month's list goes up.

10) In case of a tie, the prize will be split equally among all the tied people.

11) I will randomly reorder this list so that the first-come first-thumbed effect is lessened.

Prizes

Three will be awarded:

First place:

50 bag + microbadge golden teapot mb

Second place:

25 bag

Third place:

10 bag

extra prize (each thumb up giver):

5 bag randomly one person, who gives this list a thumb up.

So make sure to give this list a thumbsup so that we can keep this list on the front page as long as possible!!! You have the chance to win bag. And there will be more participants -> more pimped games to see!!!

Here's my partial remake of Arkham Horror done as a birthday present for my friend, Troy. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as he did!

Remade or newly created items include
- Investigator sheets
- A journal of all the Ancient Ones
- doom track
- an LED first player marker
- terror track marker
- gate seals (elder signs)
- a stitched leather monster bag
- a tray for the cards
- other tokens (e.g. stamina, sanity, money, loops)
- a big chest to put it all in

It's hard to pick a couple representative pictures, but there's a pile more information and pictures in the thread so please take a look.

I love Heroscape. I love making awesome huge maps on which to play Heroscape. I love how the Ticalla Jungle pieces make Heroscape maps look but I was tired of not having any those pieces for my maps. Still, I refused to pay the crazy prices people were wanting, so I set out to make my own.

My proxies have gone through many attempts and much evolution. It took awhile to find accurate matches for all the parts of the jungle bush but now I think I'm as close to the original as I'm going to get.

I now have tons of jungle bushes and plenty of palm trees to make my maps look better than ever, with plenty of materials to make more. Plus, it cost me why less than what is being asked for on a certain auction site.

This is my first submission to the contest. I hope it is acceptable. Thanks.

I decided to finally try my hand at miniature painting and my first guinea pig was "Fortune and Glory". I improved as I went along, bound to happen after painting 546 little figures, and I see some things I'd like to fix but overall I'm happy with the extra pizazz it adds to the game.

All the heroes.

The Nazi villains, soldiers and zeppelin.

And here are the Mob villains and the Temple minis

This is my favorite light civ building game. The components are serviceable but I felt it really needed some extras to make it more palatable for my gaming group. My gaming group is a bit "Cult of the New" (3 of us are card carrying members!) and we love attractive games so it needed some love.

First thing I did was Tile Tuckboxes (picture here). The game comes in a rather large box and keeping the tiles organized worked much better with custom tuckboxes.

My next project was actual game boards (Game Board, Disaster Board, Tiles/Coins Storage Board). The tiles normally just hang out on the table and having an actual board keeps everything organized. Plus makes it look nicer! I tried real hard to keep the same simple graphic design of the original player mats. They look a bit boring by themselves but work very well when in play. You don't want to clash with the original game graphic design and distract from the tiles themselves.

But wasn't done yet! I thought the money was kind of dull too so created 1/2" stickers to spruce them up.

And finally I replaced the cardboard markers used for Turn Order & Bidding with large wood discs & pawns (pictures here & here.)

Here's a pic of a 4 player game setup. Didn't have the new wood components or coin stickers yet when taking this picture.

The stickers attached to the coins.

This was the second game I pimped by custom painting old minatures for the game. My copy of Dungeon! originally comes with little pawns. I wanted to spice it up some with some good looking minis. There are 2 wizards, 2 heroes, 2 superheroes and 2 elves.

Thank you all for your consideration!

Happy November all!

This last month I pimped a couple of games with old school miniatures that I bought at the last Strategicon. One of those game was Labyrinth

For this, I had a mismatch of figures from different eras and sets. I painted them all up and then used some clear colored square bits to glue them to. This keeps them standing on the sliding tiles and also shows who is what color.

I hope you like it!

Thank you all for your consideration!

I've done quite a bit of pimping on this game. And two of my pimp ideas (Battle Mat & Thematic Docking Mini-Mat) were added to the first expansion!

Originally they were going to just put in my Battle Mat but Karim Chakroun (graphic designer) made a much nicer new one. I thought it would be super handy to also add card mats for the various deck types in the game. So made sure I matched his graphic design so they fit in seamlessly.

There are 5 main decks in the game (not counting Alliance ships since they aren't drawn randomly). There are also 5 types of Improvement cards. Improvement cards are not drawn randomly, you buy them. But a big stack of cards is rather annoying to search through so I made the mat with separate sections for easier searching.

Tannhäuser custom insert with amazing character-sheet elevator technology reverse-engineered from alien spacecraft. laugh

October was the month I really got back into Tannhäuser, after finally trying the game with the revised rule-set. I'm really happy with the game now (so happy I wrote a review) but was slightly disappointed that FFG had abandoned the nice plastic insert in favor of their standard cardboard tray. So I made this custom insert.

I inverted the cardboard so I have a compartment on either side instead of just one in the middle. Then I cut out a section of the middle divider to make a space for the character sheets. I devised a platform with a cloth handle so the character sheets are elevated out of their compartment when you pull on it. The area behind the character sheet compartment is lined with some decorative paper I had lying around from an old book binding project.

I also enhanced the paint-job on the pre-painted minis with a little devlan mud. It's a little thing, but it makes them look much nicer. Those pics are in the gallery as well if you care to take a gander.
