I'm not generally a fan of perfect info games, but I just played a game of Let's Catch the Lion! a week ago and it reminded me that I don't mind perfect info games, I just don't like the heavy ones.

I'm going to draw the line between Twixt and Checkers (I'm not sure if Twixt is really lighter than Checkers but I think they are close and the latter game has the scary 8x8 grid) and obviously Chess in its different forms and Go are certainly out. As much as it pains me to say it, since I feel it is a great modern perfect info abstract game, Hive is out too.

Please feel free to add any games you think fits. The only games that come to my mind are 2P but if there is a multiplayer game that fits then by all means add it.

Cheers!

This is a simplifed version of Shogion a 3x4 grid with really simple movements for the pieces. The first win condition is pretty obvious (checkmate the opponent's lion) but the second (get your own lion to the other side) makes the game a nice light filler. Really cute and fun, I'm hoping z-man exports it over here cause I'm not ready to buy 8 copies of it...and the online store selling it is sold out anyways!

I have not tried out other mini-versions of Shogi, but if they are appropriately light for the list by all means add them!

3D tic tac toe with pyramids! I've always liked the idea of tic tac toe, but obviously the 3x3 grid doesn't take you very far. However, the pyramids version is a fine little game where you start out without a grid and you build one up as you go. Also you can increase or decrease the pieces as you go eventually forcing a 3-in-a-row...hopefully for your turn!

Yeah I know its a kids game, but heck, I've had a lot of fun with this game, even in college. Something about getting 4 in a row with the help of gravity...and then opening it up and letting it crash onto the table.

Like I said, I'm looking for fillers, not true brainburners.

I remember playing this with a homemade set during recess in junior high. Its a nice light game. As I make the list I am wondering if I have a particular fondness of n-in-a-row (if you get 3 in a row you can remove an opponent's piece)....I need to make another board of this!

This will be as heavy as I will go in this GL. And I'd say this is the culmination of my linear kick. I think the complexity of a 2D field blows my mind, which is why chess/checkers/go/ and even the great OOP game Flowerpoweris not on the list.

And because you're going for one long line and the extent of the line is clearly defined due to the components, I have this on the list but I've left off Pente.

I think the version I played was a cheapo set from Target that might be called oware, but its a light game that somehow just flows nicely. No luck but somehow there is a reasonable amount of variety in this game to have kept my interest over the years. I have no idea why, but when I play it I always get sucked in for a few plays.

3X3 grid, you want to have more pieces pointing towards you when the board fills up than pointing towards your opponent. In spite of the cards it is a perfect info game (since both players have the same pieces at their disposal and the randomized neutral pieces are selected before the start of the round).

I have not played this game but I do not expect this to be TOO heavy, though I may be wrong.

This one reminds me a lot of Tic Tac Doh. Both players use the same set of tiles or playing cards with one player attempting to match up suits and the other trying to match up numbers.

I've been enjoying this short tile placement/stacking game lately. And it consists of only some plastic pieces, no board, so very portable and playable without worries on a restaurant table that might be dirty (as we did last night).

We've been playing various of the short simple little games for Shibumi, e.g. Spline and Splice. They are fun light little perfect information games.

Small, but not trivial. Its bigger brother Epsilon qualifies for this list, too.

Just what Russ said, drawing the line between Twixt and Checkers is difficult to comprehend for me. However, this game has all the taste of Checkers with less calories.
