This list is purely for my own benefit to keep an ongoing record of every game I've ever played since recording my game plays here on BGG, and to share what I thought of them after that first play.

This is mostly just to keep track of the number of different games I've played without expansions skewing the numbers in my 'Total Games Played' list.

Feel free to add any comments on the games I've played.

The first non-party game that I bought in a long, long time. It was replaying HeroQuest with my friends that lead me to search out something new that didn't need the same group of people on a consistent basis, since I couldn't rely on everyone in the group to show up every time. I actually first heard of this game on the video game website GameFAQS.com, in their special interest section under board games. It is what lead me here to BGG, and I haven't looked back.

As for the game itself, I loved it. It could be complete in one session (though I did miss the HeroQuest campaign style missions), and had dozens of heroes, monsters, items, etc. for a ton of variability. On top of that, there were a lot of expansions that had even more of everything! A great game that I was very happy with.

Expansions first played:
04/23/10 - Arkham Horror: Dunwich Horror
04/24/10 - Arkham Horror: Curse of the Dark Pharaoh
06/04/10 - Arkham Horror: The Black Goat of the Woods
06/18/10 - Arkham Horror: The King in Yellow
07/09/10 - Arkham Horror: Innsmouth Horror
07/16/10 - Arkham Horror: The Lurker at the Threshold
07/30/10 - Arkham Horror: Kingsport Horror
10/11/11 - Arkham Horror: Arkham Nights 2010 Promotional Ancient One Cards
01/10/12 - Arkham Horror: Oliver Grayson Ally Card
06/27/12 - Arkham Horror: The Curse of the Dark Pharaoh (Revised Edition)
06/27/12 - Arkham Horror: Miskatonic Horror
06/13/15 - Arkham Horror: Dance of the Damned Mythos Card
06/13/15 - Arkham Horror: Arkham Nights 2012 Promotional Ancient One Card

Still in my board game infancy, but very much enthralled with the hobby, I was having fun sharing it with others. My dad is a big fan of Zombie movies and this game seemed simple enough, so I got him this game for Father's Day as well as some expansions for his birthday a couple weeks later. We've played it a few times, but the game seems to last longer than it should, since in order to win, you have to slow down the others and race to the finish. We will still play it now and then, but have since found better games.

Expansions first played:
06/27/10 - Zombies!!! 2: Zombie Corps(e) (Second Edition)
09/26/10 - Zombies!!! 3.5: Not Dead Yet
09/26/10 - Zombies!!! 6: Six Feet Under

An example of the party games we often played when we got together with the family. This is a game my brother and sister-in-law brought over to my parent's house. This was a fun, and sometimes frustrating game. A team received a card with some words on it and they had to play word tiles on a board (instead of talking) in order to get the other teams to guess the words in a set amount of time. There were 120 word tiles, all with different descriptions, and you can play them on the 'Definitely', 'Kind Of', or 'Not' sections in order to let the guessers know which adjectives fit the word or not that they had to guess. Both the guesser and team playing the tiles would get points if it was guessed correctly. Not bad for a party game that doesn't take a lot of brain power, but it does take up a lot of table space.

Another party game, in which the objectives or stunts you must do can be extremely random. Balancing a shoe on your head while singing a children's song is an example of something you might have to do in order to move forward on the track. This game can be extremely fun and hilarious with the right amount of people, but if they don't get into it, it becomes a dud.

Played cards pretty often throughout the years, though this is the only game recently played. Euchre is always fun against people that know how to play, although skill (and sometimes your partner) can't help you if you got dealt a bad hand.

Went to my first monthly board game meetup thanks to Meetup.com. Arrived a little late, so the place was full, but it was fun to see a bunch of games that I had only read about here on BGG. A group at a table was learning how to play Bohnanza, so we joined them and tried it out. It was fun, and being forced to talk and trade with others is a good way to break the ice. I didn't think too much of the game at first, but my wife really liked it, and we have since bought it and after a few more plays, I really like it a lot. Now I just need to try out those expansions we got.

Expansions first played:
04/13/12 - High Bohn Plus
01/13/13 - Bohnaparte
11/02/15 - Bohnanza: Princes & Pirates
08/15/16 - Bohnanza: Bean Market

Dominion was the next game played at the meetup. Like Bohnanza, it was quite a different type of card game than I was used to. I didn't know much about the strategy, I just remember I tried to get as many cards as I could that would let me keep getting more actions. I remember my wife ended up winning, but she really wasn't too much of a fan, and I remember wanting to try Thunderstone next after playing it, since at the time, it was Dominion's main competitor.

Expansions first played:
04/06/13 - Dominion: Intrigue
04/06/13 - Dominion: Prosperity
04/06/13 - Dominion: Dark Ages

The last game at the meetup was this classic. I thought it was simple to play (after playing Arkham Horror, most games are), but I enjoyed the strategy aspect, as it was really the most strategic game I've played to this point. My wife also liked it, and it was a game that would eventually join our collection.

When I got home from my first board game meetup, there was a box waiting for me. I had ordered Defenders of the Realm, and it was finally here. As much as I loved Arkham Horror, I was looking for a game with a fantasy setting. And what better than a game designed by the same guy that did Arkham Horror?

It was another tough co-op game, and I had a blast with it. All the heroes were quite different from each other, as were the generals and their minions. We lost a lot, but it quickly became one of my favorites.

Expansions first played:
08/07/10 - Defenders of the Realm: The Barbarian
01/25/11 - Defenders of the Realm: The Dragon Expansion
10/18/11 - Defenders of the Realm: The Errant Paladin

This is a party game we've had for a while, and this one is fun with a large group. The reader reads a question, and everyone else has to answer it. Then the reader must guess who gave which answers and moves along the track for each one correct. Answers may be truthful or ridiculous, and with our group of friends, they are often hilarious. Very fun with people you know well.

Another game good for large groups. Just split up into a couple of teams, and start guessing what your teammate is drawing. Simple game to play with large groups of non-gamers.

Today was the day of my very first gaming convention, a local convention held in Rochester, MI called Michicon. And the very first event I signed up for was for Settlers of Catan, a game I had heard so much about. Unfortunately, my experience was marred by an obnoxious 12 or 13 year old girl that was playing. She knew the rules, but she was just out of control. She'd get angry anytime we moved the thief to her (which only made us do it more), she would get up and leave the table and go to the other side of the room just to shuffle her cards up, she was quite rough with the cards and pieces, and had to be warned several times she would have to leave the game if she didn't behave, etc. So I couldn't really get into this one. I definitely wouldn't mind trying again.

My next convention event was Pillars of the Earth. We played with the expansion and had 6 players. Now this was a game I really enjoyed, and made me realize that I was drawn to strategy games. I liked the adventure and fantasy games, but I really liked the games that make me think. I enjoyed the worker placement aspect and the resource and money management. As much I liked this game, one of the players said that a game called Caylus was even better...

Next event was Carcassonne. I believe 5 of us played and we used the first river expansion. I was a little confused at first on what I was doing, but it clicked after a couple of turns. I just thought it was a 'meh' game at first, but apparently this is one of those that take time to grow on you, at least it did for me. I looked into it more, and saw all the expansions available and all the variety they offered, and decided I needed to take the plunge and eventually got the Big Box 2 set. Shortly after that, I decided I had to complete the collection, and all the rest of the expansions were eventually mine.

The next event at the convention was supposed to be a game of Munchkin. Unfortunately, early on, one of the players got a little angry at being attacked or whatever, and decided to be a jerk and ruin the whole game for everyone. And when I say early on, I mean within the first 5 minutes of the game. So my wife and I and another couple left and decided to borrow this from the game library. We looked over the rules and played a game of something, although I'm not quite sure we played this game correctly. I would like to try this one again, after learning the real rules.

Towards the end of my first game convention, I was chosen in the raffle drawing to win a prize. It was towards the end of the night, and the prize pool had dwindled a bit. I narrowed down my prize to three games, Dwarven Dig!, Wasabi, or Beowulf: The Legend. Never having read Beowulf or seeing any of the movies based on it, I passed on it first. Knowing very little about games, and still being in my dungeon-crawling phase, I chose Dwarven Dig! which I would later regret and wish I had chosen Wasabi instead.

My version of Dwarven Dig! was the newly revised Bucephalus Games version that had fantastic components and allowed for 6 players instead of 4 like the original. And the game can be fun, it just drags and drags and drags. It is kind of like Zombies!!! in a sense, you have to race to the end, and slow everyone else down, while they do the same to you, and so it takes way longer than it should. I think a streamlining of the rules could make this a more fun game.

Scrabble is fun once in a while. Having been introduced to so many more games, I much prefer a more strategic gamer's game. But it doesn't mean I won't play this now and then.

Another word game that's fun to play now and then, which is easy enough for non-gamers to get into.

This is one of many gifts from my mother-in-law. She knew we played games all the time (party games mostly, before finding BGG) and so at Christmas or for birthdays, she would often throw a game in with our presents. It's always a mass market game, but that's not always a bad thing. This is probably the best version of Yahtzee I've played, it's interactive and there are choices to make although you are still at the mercy of the dice. They did a good job balancing the different point values for different cards against how easy they are to steal. I still like to play this one.

As much as I enjoyed Arkham Horror and Defenders of the Realm, I still wanted to fill the dungeon-crawling void that HeroQuest left behind (and that Dwarven Dig! was not filling). Some friends were making an order, and so we banded together for the free shipping and I got a couple of new games.

The first dungeon-crawler I got was DungeonQuest. It wasn't one that you worked together, it was a race to grab as much treasure as possible and get out. I had done my research and knew about the death rate, and the randomness, but it seemed like a blast and I was right. I enjoy the exploring and searching, and view this as an old arcade game where you simply play over and over just to get a high score. I keep a high score sheet with this game to record the top scores of everyone I play this with. Very happy with this one.

At the other end of the spectrum was this completely co-op dungeon-crawl. It was a little light, and it didn't have the ongoing campaign and character buildup of HeroQuest, but on the plus side, it didn't need an overlord to run it, and the different quests and bosses were varied, but only took an hour or so. My friends also liked it so I was happy with the purchase.

I have played this a bunch of times over the years, and it is also a game my wife has. As with most party games, this can be fun with the right group, and is good for large groups of people. We often have 16 or more when my wife's family gets together for game night, and we will pull this one out every now and then.
