Welcome to the 4th annual edition of the "Look at what Santa Grogs sent me!" list. This is the largest one we've had yet, with well over 100 participants! This makes the wargamer secret santa the biggest one outside the main BGG wide one.

for running the exchange this year.

Details and rules for the exchange can be found here: mbWargamer Secret Santa

This year's microbadge will be automatically awarded to participants.

Lists from past years:
mb2008 WARGAMER Look what Secret Santa Sent Me...
mb2009 WARGAMERS Look what Santa Grogs sent me!
mb2010 WARGAMERS Look what Santa Grogs sent me!

So, for all of us obsessive compulsive types, especially the ones who fret "did my secret Santa gift actually arrive?", this is where you can post what your secret Santa sent you.

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present!

If your Santa sends you more than one item, just list them all in one listing unless you think it makes more sense to list them separately. Remember to include any comments you want your Secret Santa to know!

Merry Christmas fellow wargamers!

Just got home to a package on the doorstep. Opened the main box to see a nicely wrapped game shaped box inside (CLS Games did an awesome job, even the outside of the package had a great big sticker stating it was from my BGG Secret Santa).

No way I was waiting to open this one, excitement and curiosity got the better of me. What can I say? I used to be the kid who searched the house for presents weeks before the holiday and the ones that did make it under the tree were shaken like mad to figure out what was inside.

Besides, today's my birthday. I'm sticking to the idea Santa Grogs knew that and wanted to me to enjoy an extra present.

Of all the games on my wishlist this was the one I was hoping to see. Thank you Santa Grogs! Already reading the rules and I can't wait to get playing. Thanks again.

My Secret Santa present arrived on Friday! A nice big (and slightly heavy) box from GMT! I resisted the temptation to open it and will have an elf here open and wrap the present (so it can be placed under the tree).

UPDATE: 12/25

Well, I was able to hold off and wait until this morning to open my games (thanks in large part to my daughter, who served as Santa Grogs elf and wrapped the present and kept an eye on it...).

I must have been a good boy this year, because Santa Grogs not only got me a copy of Blackbeard but also found another game fits my interests perfectly:

Santa Grogs was sooo smart to see that I am a WWII PTO aficionado! I love them!

I'll get Blackbeard on the table ASAP.

Thank you so much Santa Grogs, aka:

I received a big envelope from VPG today. I'm not positive if it's from Santa Grogs or Regular Santa since I had both wargames and non-wargames from them on my wishlist. Santa Grogs, is this from you?

Edit: 12/12/11
I could resist no longer. I opened my package and found two excellent solitaire games that I've been really excited to play.

The Barbarossa Campaign

Dawn of the Zeds (First edition)

This is a great gift! Thank you Santa Grogs! I'll be done with my final exams this and able to resume my gaming so these come at the perfect time!

So, I got home from work today, and found an envelope from Victory Point Games on my front stoop. I won a copy of Israeli Independence: The First Arab-Israeli War, 1948-1949 in the recent Jack Vasel Memorial Auction, so I figured it was that ... d'oh! whistle

Instead I found a copy of Soviet Dawn, which I am very excited to try out - and its solitaire so I don't have to worry about scaring up an opponent. I think its from my Santa Grogs ... is this from you?

Box arrived from Wargames Depot - which I hadn't ordered from.

My willpower is weak, so it was opened very shortly after my finding the box (in my defense, I will say that I came home from BGG.con Sunday afternoon to find it at home - I was pretty wiped out from a weekend of gaming at the con, so whatever willpower I might normally have had was pretty much unconscious).

Also in the box were these:

Against the Odds: Pocket at Falaise

and

Hold the Line: French & Indian War Expansion

Santa Grogs, you rock!

I will say Wargames Depot did a great job packing and shipping - they even made sure to cut the name of Santa Grogs logistics officer out of the invoice, so no G2 there!

Thanks again, and Merry Christmas!

Thank you Santa Grogs for the gift and for feeding my growing addiction to Victory Point games!

[update - boxing day] Opened up and it's :

Excellent. Great length for a 2 player wargame. Have spent free time today reading rules - this will hopefully be played for the first time in the next week or so! laugh

Updated!

My wargame secret Santa sent me the number one game from my wishlist! Thanks! I have two game days coming up over the holidays and look forward to teaching this to many people.

Original: A package from my very conscientious secret Santa arrived while I was at BGG Con! I feel badly that he's had to wait this long for confirmation, but it's now wrapped and stowed until Christmas. I'll update this entry once I've opened it!

My Secret Santa didn't seem so secret - his name was on the box, Paul Lister...

Paul Lister, however, is Boardgameguru, and inside the box was a well wrapped (in completely opaque paper... ) present, and a card with a lengthy message from Santa - now, did my real Santa send the card to Boardgameguru to forward on, or did they write it out from a message given to them with the order? Either way, nicely done, Boardgameguru!

And many thanks to my Wargames Santa! kiss

And, no, I haven't opened it... yet... cool

EDIT: Santa Grogs game me permission to open this, and so I did - I got World at War: The Untold Stories, an excellent choice, and even a relief, as I'd already bought other games that needed pieces from this!

And also Kriegbot Expansion - only a few sheets of card & some instructions, but a nice expansion to a game I already have. Also includes some extra minis - the lump I could feel!

A package was waiting for me at the post office today. I took it back home to discover that my Secret Santa has been very generous and offered me this amazing game.

It was very high on my buying-list and I was close to succomb and buy it two weeks ago. Santa knows everything thumbsup

I discovered this system via Burma 2n edition (first attracted by the theme and later really pleased by the system). I can't wait to try the system on a different theater of operation.

A big thank to you Santa for the upcoming hours of play (and by the way, now my wife hates you laugh)

I came home today and found a package waiting for me. I opened the box and found a nicely wrapped game with a note from Santa Grogs. The note said that I could open the game at will and with my complete lack of self control I tore into it. Three seconds later Commands & Colors: Napoleonics was in my hands. My friend is coming over tomorrow to play a few games of C&C: Ancients but I think we might just play this instead.

While spending the week enjoying all the fun and sun of Walt Disney World in Florida I received a message from Santa Grogs that a special package would be arriving on Friday. I promptly dispatched my in-laws to check the house and bring in any packages for I did not want any despicable doer of dastardly deeds to abscond with my box of wargamey goodness.

Saturday arrived and it was time to head home. The eighteen hour drive was excruciating as I could think of nothing else than what could be waiting for me at home. Would it be ancient warfare, Napoleonics, WWII? Would it be tactical, operational, or strategic???? Oh the possibilities were too vast, my wish list too varied.

Arriving home at 1:30 AM I carried the boys to their beds, spotting my box on the table as I went by. Another hour of unpacking the car and making sure everything was settled back and I finally had a moment to spare. But it is 2:30 I should go to bed the box will still be there in the morning. But NO, how could any wargamer sleep while sitting just downstairs was an unopened box.

I went back downstairs and grabbed my bounty from the table and tore open the box. Immediately my eyes caught a glimpse of the Lock 'n Load logo. Lock 'n Load: Band of Heroes It is a system I've always wanted to try.
(oh no the the completist in me will need to buy the rest of the series now ) But wait there is something else wrapped in a bag right behind it. I can't tell what it is. Oh joy of joys it is Bonaparte at Marengo

I love Napoleon's Triumph and have been meaning to get Bonaparte at Marengo for some time now.

Boxes open and mysteries revealed I could finally drift off to sleep with visions of blocks and counters dancing in my head.

Thanks Santa Grogs!!!

Got home from Thanksgiving dinner #2 (on my way to dinner #3) on Friday, and I had a package waiting for me on the front steps. My general philosophy is that I open the packages, and if the gifts are wrapped I don't open them (whistle ok, well that's my story and I'm sticking with it). Opened the box, and found inside -->

U-Boat Leader

which I have to say was my #1 attainable wanted game --> Up Front and God's Playground are my #1 and #2 grail games.

In addition to Soviet Dawn: The Russian Civil War, 1918-1921, which arrived by air drop earlier in the week, I have to say this was a great supply drop from Santa Grogs - thanks!

Thank you Santa Grogs!

I received my present in the mail just the other day. It came way of Canada, which makes two years in a row for my Santa Grogs.

It seems that Victory Point Games is making a killing off this year's Wargame Secret Santa because here's my extremely generous present:

Opened the package and found a note explaining that while We Must Tell the Emperor: The Great Pacific War, 1941 to 1945 was out of stock, my Santa Grogs thought I would enjoy these other games even more:

Ottoman Sunset: The Great War in the Near East 1914-1918
Keep Up The Fire!: The Boxer Rebellion, June to August 1900
Zulus on the Ramparts!
PLUS
Zulus on the Ramparts!: Expansion Kit

Wowsers! I've recently started LOVING solitaire wargaming (Labyrinth: The War on Terror, 2001 – ?), and I've considered for a long time adding some VPG games to my collection. I can't thank my Santa Grogs enough and hope to repay the generosity again next year!

Last wednesday I arrive home after work and I was surprised with two boxes laying on my play table. I was expecting my CC: Resistance so the other one had to be from Santa!!

First I decided only to open and check careful if what was inside was wrapped (checked), as I wanted to wait till Christmas to open it... I just discovered that bellow a wrapped box, were 2 more small packages also wrapped but without any note.

So I had 3 gifts lying on my table waiting for Christmas!!!

Everyone knows what happened next... 5 seconds later all the 3 gifts were properly unwrapped and I was looking to:

Combat Commander: Mediterranean

Combat Commander: Battle Pack #2 - Stalingrad

Combat Commander: Battle Pack #3 - Normandy

WOW!! With the also just arrived CC: Resistance I was almost finishing my Combat Commander collection (only Paratroopers missing, but OoP anyway)

I really thank my Santa for this games. I love Combat Commander Series and now, with all of these counters, maps and scenarios I can play it for ages!!

I received this in the mail today. I'm pretty anxious to play this game as I've been reading quite a bit about it lately. After taking the game out of the box it was sent in I found not one, but TWO dvd sets!

Complete History of WWII & Victory At Sea!

There were also two miniature tanks in the package to sweeten the pot.

Thanks for the gifts! I hope my secret santa enjoys his gifts as much as I will enjoy mine!

Thanks again and Merry Christmas!

Holy smokes Santa Grogs!

Thanx for the present. It wasn't marked "open on Xmas" so I opened it!

I'm totally stoked.

It was an amazing surprise cause I've been waiting for mail for more than a month. The post office screwed up our change of address when we moved and all mail has been going to our old address.

There was a dingdong at the door and when I answered, the delivery elf was already gone. I hauled this heavy package and opened it with great curiousity.

SS yer the best.

I'll start from the beginning:

Santa contacted me a couple of weeks ago with this letter :

Quote:
Wargame Secret Santa is approaching your perimeters! With some hot stuff!

He WILL launch some stuff towards you, and you are NOT going to stop that.

He might as well have something for Your wife & daughter, but there is a little problem....

We had a little "accident" here just a bit south of North Pole. Well, actually it is not a secret anymore, that we have one of our bases in Lappland, where this thing happened. Anyway, there was a little explosion in our production line, which caused injuries to some (hundreds of) elves, among whom were also our bookkeeping elves (all 742 of them). What a coincidence, you might say...

Well, we have missed our log of games Your wife prefers and the actual data concerning your daughters age. We CAN recon this information, but since the responsible elves behind the beforementioned explosion(s) were all part of recon section, they are currently quite busy studying bookkeeping. And head of the department is trying to find his way back home...ANYWAY, could You please send this information, so that those packaging trolls can grunt all items in and let sneakgoblins do the delivery.

Hey, ho, lets go!

Santa in camouflage jumpsuit

It is such a great gesture from Santa to ask around about my family, You just can't describe the warm feeling it gives You.
Anyway I replied Santa with an email of games that my wife likes to play and that my babygirl is just too tiny to play games yet. Also we wrote that ofcourse it would be great if he would add something but he doesn't have to exceed his "Santa budget".

This morning I received a notice from the post office, that I had a package. When I saw it, I was WOW, what a big box.
Bet when I went home and opened the package the previous WOW was an "ants" WOW compared with the elephant WOW that was in the box. Well here it is...

Sorry for the grammar mistakes, because I am still in shock, I mean, so many.
Even thou Santa said we can open them up if we wanted to, we will wait untill Christmas. Because they are so neatly wraped.
THANKYOU SANTA. THANKYOU A LOT. You have made our Christmas great already and I am sure the games included are awesome (I will post what I got after Christmas).
It would be great if You Santa would give us an address to where we could send You a Christmas card from our family, well an email at least.
Merry Christmas Santa!

Thats it, I could not hold out any longer. I peeked at the games Santa sent me, did not unwrap them Yet, tahts for Christmas but just peeked to know whats in there, and this is it:
Rommel in the Desert
Crusader Rex
R-Eco
Nefertiti
Archaeology: The Card Game
Starship Catan
7 Wonders: Manneken Pis
and one abstract game, that I could not see the name off.

Santa, the story of Your generosity will be told for years and years to come. Thank You very very much and MERRY CHRISTMAS from all of my family.

The day has finally arrived. Santagrogs sent my gifts some time ago but asked me to wait. So now I can reveal what cardboard goodness I found in my stocking:

The Caucasus Campaign

I am very excited about this game. I love the Eastern Front and can't wait to give this one a go. I'm fairly new to wargames and so my wishlist is probably mostly a reflection of the new wargame hotness. So I need to rely on the experts to guide me to new and wonderful titles that I haven't considered. I'm hoping this is one of the treasures I would have missed out on if left to my own choosing. I hope to get this to the table soon.

Combat Commander: Resistance!

Awww yeah. This one came in a second, unexpected package. Love CC and this one was a must buy for me so my Santa made a good choice. I can't wait to see what new ideas this one brings to the CC table.

Thank you so much SS. I would love to play some of these games (probably online) with you some day. Have a Merry Christmas.

Santa Grogs has delivered a package to my doorstep, but I have not opened it yet. I wanted to place this here as a placeholder until the thoughtful and wonderful gift is opened and greatly appreciated

Thank you Santa Grogs!

Christmas Day Edit:

Santa Grogs delivered a copy of Washington's War. It was very hard not to open the box but I was able to hold out until Christmas!

Thank you so much Santa Grogs, I'm looking forward to opening it up and taking a shot at a test run post-christmas dinner

Thank you Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Today when I got home a package from the US postal service was waiting. I actually knew that because my Santa Grogs was kind enough to geekmail a tracking number earlier this week!

Anyhoo, when I opened it I found this fine game - I've played it a couple of times and really like it, glad to have it! And also in the box was the deluxe map - also very cool!

And ALSO in the box (I guess I was good this year), was this:

Which I've seen played but haven't had the chance to play yet - now I can!

Thanks Santa Grogs.
Spoiler (click to reveal)
I mean, I really wanted the former #1 wargame, My Little Pony Hide & Seek, but these are great games anyway!
