Hi every one. Secret Santa scolded me of about not participating enough, and I find that to being true. So I have been wondering about what I do in boardgaming that maybe no one else does, and would be worth of making a list about it. So I realized that one of my favorite gaming experiences its gaming with my work mates after a hard day working... digging dinosaurs.

We are the Aragosaurus Research Group (www.aragosaurus.com) and we dig (and study) Spanish dinosaurs. Digging is not as nice as it seems in the movies or n TV, and yes, we use brushes, but to clear the dust we made with our picks and hammers. So after a looong day at the field, the best way of spending the evenings, usually in the middle of nowhere, is to have a couple of beers and playing boardgames.

And these are what we play...

I think this was the game that started everything. It was three years ago, and Membrillo carried this to Ladruñan, our favorite dinosaur sites. I believe this was the game that turned me into an obsessed player, but what I am sure is that these was the beginning of our post-digging sessions.

Well, sometimes, if the day has been too hard (you know, you have spent 8 hours hammering very hard rocks and the only bone you have found is a stupid unidentified splinter) you only need three things to turn it into a good day: a bottle of beer in your hand, some laughing and some way of taking revenge of the guy in the square next to you that managed to dig out a complete skull and five articulated vertebrae... And Bohnanza provides two of these (Ambar beers, a local brewery, can provide the third easily enough

I am not really sure, but I think this one was first played in a raining day, three summers ago. Raining is not so common in the summers of Spain, but big summer storms happen quite frequently. They last for less than an hour but, you know, being at a place surrounded by hammers, picks, metal reinforcements for the digging grid and lots of more metallic stuff during an electric storm is not one of the behaviors that we paleontologist would call positively selected by evolution.

The game, in my opinion, is still the best game I have played.

Ok, first thing I learned about this game was that you MUST make a copy of every component, print and laminate all the cards, and then star to think about playing it, as soda incidents will be part of the game... well, only if you play like us and drink a third of a bottle of beer every time your character has to do so. This way, this game improves a lot.

We have very very little money to plan our expeditions, so we use volunteers. All we promise is food, a roof, and all the beer you can drink (after the work is done, of course). It is not necessary to say that our campaigns are quite popular and we are not usually short of people...
