OK, here's teh situation. My nephew is fast appraoching 10 and I would like to get him a good substantial 'boys' game for his birthday.

he's very much into Computer games but does like games like bang when we play as a family. However, I would like to get him a game he could play with his mates. So therefore it needs to be fairly simple but must appeal to 10 year old lads and hopefully a gamew he will still play in a few years time. BTW I feel Axis ands Allies would blow his mind.

Any ideas - I've started with one please add

It seems to meet the bill but is this acceptable for lads who are 10 and don't want to be considered geeky I.e would it have street cred or would his mates take the piss

My son turns 10 in two weeks and he loves Memoir 44. He asks to play it with me all the time. He has not asked to play it with his friends yet, for which I am grateful since it is my game. Like your son, he likes Bang! The other game we've played a bit of together that he seems to like is Carcassonne. Memoir 44 and Bang! are the only two he ask to play though.

What about Citadels? What 10-year-old wouldn't take glee in offing one of his friends? I think it's a great game. My 2 kids love it.

Now sold as Colossal Arena. My 10 year old son and 12 year old daughter like this one. Great fantasy theme.

The kid in the foreground of this pic is doing pretty good according to his ship stats anyway. What 10 year old boy wouldn't love to play a priate game as sweet as this one?

Ranchers and rustling. This is a fun little game, that doesn't get the attention it should. Rules set is simple and the cowboy theme is sure to appeal. Great for a ten year old.

Caribbean is simple enough that all the kids can understand it and remember the rules without an adult helping. Also, no 10 year old ever thought pirates were uncool.

If he's into computer games, he will be a big fan of Doom. This game brings a few of the uglier creatures to life in real 1:50 scale plastic! There are a lot of bits to get lost, but it really is the ultimate in cool. My 8yo (in the picture) can name the weapons on sight, though I have no idea. It is also the sort of game where you can make up your own scenarios.
