My friends have a good collection, and I'm starting mine now. We mostly play eurogames, like Puerto rico, Modern Art and Settlers - don't like Carcassonne that much. I'm about to make a big order and have two "spaces" left. One is for a heavier game, (my favorite is Puerto Rico), that should have
a) Easy to teach but deep strategy and tactics
b) Not too chaotic
c) Good replayability
d) (wanted, but not essential) Good theme
e) Some player interaction (no multiplayer solitaire)
I'm considering T&E, Maharaja and Tikal.

The other space is for an area control game, as my friends have none of that type. Wanted El Grande, but since is currently out of print, I'm trying other things. For this I'm between Louis XIV and China.

Help me choose between those and feel free to add some others.

Played only one Knizia game - Modern Art - and loved it. Some say that this game is too "dry". What would that mean?

In the somehow "heavier" spectrum. Is this game any good? What about the downtime?

How about PoF? If you liked Puerto Rico, this one is not too far off. Rules wise its something on par with PR. Because the game last only 7 turns, there is quite a bit of planning to do and hence, while the game is easy to learn, its hard to master.

This game might meet you heavy and area control requests. It is very strategic and also quite tactical. It also plays well from 2 to 4 (I think 3 players is the weakest)
