I've been thinking about this geeklist for a long time. However, I never created a single GL on BGG due to my laziness. However, after reading this , I decided that mere thumbing or replying to that geeklist would not be enough. It's time to give a proper compliment to one of the most vocal sect of boardgamers.

"Who is this brat?! Get off my lawn!" - says the grognard squinting in his home while finishing his daily relaxation of counter clipping.

First, a little introduction is in order. I am basically a strict eurogamer (the horror!). My tastes tends to games with little interaction (gasp!), with little luck (apostate!) and avoiding dice (heresy!!). Honestly, I don't think I will ever be a wargamer since I don't like heavy interaction, cut-throat games or "take that!" mechanics, with few exceptions.

This is not to say I never played anything related to wargames. For example:

- I once bought Conquest of Paradise and loved the theme and the detailed background on the polynesian pacific. I only sold it because I hated the combat rules and disliked the flimsy board.

- I bought, played and really tried to like Twilight Struggle . While I fully acknowledge it IS a great game, its characteristics (a tense, lenghty, 2-player game) made me sell it.

- Martin Wallace: A tried a couple of Mr. Wallace more destructive games. While After the Flood was "merely OK" , I was surprised how much I liked Age of Reason, a revamped edition of Struggle of Empires .

- High Frontier: Yes, it is definitely not a wargame. However, it draws gamers in a similar way wargames seduce its public: the richness of theme, the heavy simulation aspect it brings and the possibility of deep discussions around it.

- I love Smallworld and Nexus Ops. Do they count too ?

Despite this, I routinely search the wargaming forum for interesting threads. Know this ASLers, WiFers, UFers and CaseBluers: every day there may be non-wargamers lurking at your subsection. Whether you find this pleasing or just plain creepy, keep up with the good work, okay?

Now, why I appreciate so much the wargaming forum?

Without the BGG wargamers, I would never know the role of Guderian and Zhukov, the existence of the Great Northern War or become acquainted with the details of the American Civil War.

PYURE DEAD BRILLIANT, as a certain scotsman would say. For these Threadsures, I thank you.

However, I would be lying if I said it were the historical details that first caught my attention. No, what I found most interesting is how passionate you discuss wargames. To cite a few:

- Wifwendell and his love of World in Flames. It's hard to not be infected with his enthusiam of this grand strategic monster wargame.

- Pete Belli and american civil war games. I don't actually know if ACW games is the preference of Pete, but I tend to place his favoritism on this conflict, due to his contribution for historical trivia on the civil war.

- One unusual nepalenglish speaking gent, though critize I shan't, lest he sends Gurkhas at Moi ninja .

There are several other wargeeks deserving note, such as HungaDUNGA, Leroy43 and Airjudeen. My thanks to you all.

Hi Victor,

Thanks for the kind words. I'll honor your choice to not join us (yet), but noticed you were from Brazil and thought I'd add a wargame with plenty of Brazilian action! Just in case

Thanks again
