I generally am a calm person and don't get worked up playing games. These are the only two games that did me in. Please list the game or games that made you blow your top and why.

Play to win, but have fun(for everyone).
And don't stay mad or make enemies.

Played with two friends at the time. One of my friends didn't want to play cards against the other because she was a girl. The girl(who is now my wife) was only interested in playing cards against me, you always hurt the ones you love. I got every card played against me and I lost it. I still enjoy the game though.

I usually like take that card games. This is a fun game. Once though, I lost it. Usually you play three rounds and determine the winner. We decided to play four rounds since there were four of us. Fourth round and I only had 3 points, everone else had around 25+. Me and one friend had kind of a feud going and another buddy kept playing off that. I was pretty frustrated but tried to calm myself and convince everybody that I wasn't a threat and there was no way I could win and since winning is the object of any game then go for the win and play cards on the other guys especially the one in the lead. BAM the other guy, who wasn't in the lead and hadn't played many cards on me said "Screw You Shawn" and played a card that wiped out all of my cards and ended the game which meant he lost. So I guess it wasn't really the game, but I lost it during that game.

This game was played in combination with something you should never do: Staying up WAY late. We didn't even start the game until around 10pm and by the time it wrapped up at 1am tempers were short.

I was about to make my attempt at slaying the dragon and wanted to control my OWN fate (ie flip the chips) and my friend insisted on doing it himself. The argument got out of hand with us trying to rip the stuff out of each others hands.

I can't even remember if I won or not...

Playing Tongiaki on BSW made me furious. I usually don't get furious at games, but man, a game that exists in that limbo between "pointless exercise" and "arbirtrary hosage" just pushed me over the edge.

Argh!

I bought this game to get away from playing Age of Mythology and Bootleggers to death, the group I play with is really competitive, a good thing for the most part. Well the other male in our little group of four got himself a girlfriend, which he could only see on Sundays(our game day)so he had to drop out. Now at first I was happy to be playing with two attractive nerd girls, but without the balance of the other male in the group, I soon became the victim of the most obnoxious game playing she-bitches anyone has ever heard of! We haven’t gotten together in two months now... before we get together again I'm going to get t-shirts made!

Who HASN'T lost it when you send a superior force of ten or more into two of your opponent's troops, only to roll 1s, 2s, and 3s while he rolls 5s and 6s like a madman?

You're like an addict...."One more roll will wipe those two out." THEN HE DOES IT AGAIN. Eventually, you just....lose it.

Friends don't let friends play old school Risk. At least, not together.

I played this once at BSW with a group that knew each other. There was a female player who for some odd reason didn't like me and did everything to hurt me. During the game, I felt more and more haunted, I felt that they ganged up on me and had their private chat open. I still had the chance to win, yet that *woman enaged in a lustful activity with a probably horizontal job*, who didn't have a chance to win anymore, saved money the last 2 turns and destroyed a 5 point building of me with the mercenary. I told them that they should be proud of that victory if they wanted to, yet ever since, I somehow dislike BSW and don't really go there anymore.

Where to begin with this. My best friend and I had a league, we drafted teams, house rules for extra fights and injuries, season, play-offs, the whole shebang. In retrospect it seems that when I was in my late teens, I had a bad temper about losing, so there were a variety of "incidents" involving this game.

I could list the time that my team came back from a 3 games to zero defecit in the league finals to tie the series at 3 - 3, only to lose the seventh game; so I ripped the entire team in half. I later claimed that there was a bus crash.

I could list the time I got so pissed off that I threw an eraser from the balcony that hit the house three houses over.

But I think the incident that made me realise that perhaps I was taking this a little too seriously was the time that Sergio Momesso missed on a breakaway at the end of the game, and I got so worked up that I ripped him into bits, chewed up the bits and managed to spit them into the garbage can accross the room. Didn't even hit the rim.

Fortunatly I have mellowed with age.

Honestly

It was years ago, before my wife and I were married. I was out at her Grandfather's house in Gilroy, CA. All of her mother's side of the family were there. Many aunts and uncles. It was a massive game of Trivial Pursuit, the sides forming based on where everyone happened to be sitting in the small front room.

The question:"What was odd about the Little Oprhan Annie comic strip character?".

My answer, which I quickly yelled out, was "She has blank, white eyes." With a sly smile her aunt asks, "Is that your final answer?".... um... "Yes"... She jumps up, points at me, and laughing says, "NO! Both her pupils AND her iris were white!" "Wrong!". She was laughing (more like cackling) and pointing at me.

I looked around incredulous, "What? That's what I said!"
"Nope." No one defended me. I was the newest "boyfriend" in the family and no one was going to side with me. My face turned every color and I shut up. I never said another word through the rest of the game. That's about as close to "blowing up." that I get when playing a game. Trivial Pursuit has been, for the most part, gathering dust on my shelf ever since.

Playing with wife and sons. A really tasty tile set comes up for auction, and I'm sitting pretty with the highest remaining sun. Ker-ching; come to pappa!

I bid my winning sun, then my 9 year old reveals the HIGHER sun he's been holding in his hand. I scream "Nooooo..." and almost launch myself over the table, before seeing his startled look and watering eyes. Oh s**t, I'm in the process of turning him off playing games for life (well, at least with me). My wife doesn't look too impressed, either.

I quickly compose myself, slap my forehead, and say "you got me there", and we continue playing.

A few turns later my other son is fiddling with his suns, so I risk mentioning that face-up suns should be visible.

We've never had a problem since, so I guess I survived this one.

I enjoy this game, I really do. Part of its charm comes from the way that the judge can pick the winning card according to whatever criteria he/she wants. Of course, this can also cause a little frustration...

Now, I realize that there's no rule that says you have to make it clear which player played which card, but in our games, if you're not making a strong case for your card, it will -not- get picked. So it usually ends up pretty obvious who belongs to which card.

One night, playing with my sister and a few mutual friends, I was winning by three or four cards. I was really on a roll, you know. One card away from winning. The judge had narrowed her choices down to two cards, and couldn't decide which to pick, when she realized that I was only one card away from winning, so she picked the other one. Ok, fair enough, why not. I'd have done the same thing. They were, admittedly, both pretty good cards.

Except that this then became the way -every- judge behaved. The game was no longer "Apples to Apples", it was "Be careful, or Darryl will win!" I was, shall we say, slightly vexed, but I think I was putting a brave face on it, you know, playing along, whatever, we're all having fun here, right?

So now, every player was clearly identifying their cards, to ensure that my card wasn't accidentally picked. After all, if it was, I'd win, and the game would be over, and then they wouldn't win, right? Like most games, the losing players want to draw the game out as long as possible...maybe they can catch up. This culminated in one round in which the judge said (paraphrased, but not that much) "Darryl's card is the best, but I don't want him to win, so I'll pick this one instead".

That pretty much did it for me. All the players were in general agreement that I had, in fact, played the "best" card, but ha! that doesn't mean the judge has to pick it! I was still smiling, but it was the forced grin of the seriously annoyed, and everyone knew it. (All the men in my family love cards and hate losing, and I seem to have inherited the trait). Needless to say, I lost the game (eventually everyone ended up tied one card from winning, and that round I didn't have a good card). That pretty much capped it for me.

But hey. I still like the game, and it hasn't happened again. I don't mind losing when the game's been well-played, but this just felt a bit petty to me. I've gotten over it, of course, and everyone has a bad night once in a while, right? ... Right?

It's rare for me not to finish a game I start, but this game (which I tried about a month ago) nearly had me tossing the board.

I got into the game thinking it'd be a couple hours, tops. Well, I get badly attacked early (due in large part to poor planning and a lack of diplomatic skills ... I don't usually partake in this type of game), and was completely hopeless after 3 turns ... out of 9. By that time, about two hours had already passed ... and everyone else took a break for lunch. To top it all off, this was during Passover; I couldn't even GET food.

Miserable, and acting like a complete ass, I did quit the game. About four hours later, it ended.

Just an ugly experience that I hope never to revisit.
