There have been plenty of lists focussing on how many players are ideal for a particular game. All of these lists are popular because we are always on the hunt for more games ideal for our prefered number of players. This list hopes for discussion on the personal preferencefor a certain number or range of players in your ideal gaming session. If you have a strong preference such as 2 to 4 players then please add your favorite game that works for that particular range...

What i have found through BGG discussions is my horizon just keeps getting wider! Through your comments i am hoping to be more open to other sized gaming groups.

3 Player is my ideal. I try to maximize the quality of what little game time i have. I hate dead time and adding more player's adds to that in 2 ways (from my perspective). First by the obvious extended waiting. Second by the social atmosphere, more distractions, more side conversations etc. It also seems to be harder to learn a game with more people. You increase the chance that you are playing with bad eggs when adding more players or even, ugh, non-gamers . And last argument against more than 3 players is the added chaos. The planned strategy doesn't have as much chance for the pleasurable course you hope. The advantages of 3 versus 2 seem to be in the win or lose question. 2 player games can be very intense and tend to be ultra competitive. In a 3 player game no one feels as bad when they are in the majority as losers. My self i love to lose a good game, but my mates aren't as perfect I guess all my thoughts for idealizing 3 players is based on my percieved dislikes for the other group sizes. I am not a real social person so i tend toward the thoughtful game versus the party games.

For my example i use Lost Valley. I would never play this with more than 3 because it does have seperate turns with no simultaneous action and a little turn angst. But i added it becasue it is an example of the many games that are rated only for 3-4 player. Pretty constrictive but ideal for me. But this game is also one of my favorites becasue it is actually a great 2 player games regardless of what the box says. And of course 2 player is better than 4!
