What is the test of a truly great game? There are many, but for me probably the greatest criteria is: If I lost the game I now have would I fork out the big bucks to purchase it again? I would definitely appreciate any input you might have, especially ones you would put in this category. Your input may give me ideas for future game purchases!

Puerto Rico - Can there be any doubt about this one? Great game for almost any group - gamers, newcomers, families, even pre-teen children - with the condition that they are not too young and can handle other similar games. My 7 year old has won this game. It's the rare game that never drags on - a two hour game seems like a half hour long.

Settlers of Catan - Another no-doubter. Some games can drag on but its overall uniqueness, interaction, and fun play make this a must have.

Capitol - Great strategic game in an hour. Although I've found the theme lacks with younger kids, and so does their skill, with teens and adults this game is great. You can see your strategy play out and it has enough randomness in the cards to make it frustating - which is good at times.

Formula de - A racing game that sometimes lasts a little long, but still a must have in my book. This was the family favorite for a long time. Beginning rules are simple, yet you can add complexity as you go on. Played this with 8 people once and it was a blast.

Acquire - I have the old version of this classic. The new one looks so good, I'm tempted to go out and get it now! Well deserving of the title "classic.".

Elfenland - This is a beautiful game that if I had the room I would just like to leave it set up in my house as art. An added benefit is it's fun and strategic. Only wish I could find a copy of Elfengold to go with it.

Money - An out of print game that doesn't always get high marks. People cite it's short length, and say it's too easy. But when you have a couple non-gamers over, pull this out. It's a deck of beautiful cards in different currency so it appeals to them immediately.

Carcassonne with the expansion - This is somewhat of a borderline pick. It's weird, I often don't want to play it, but when I do, I love it. Only problem is I can't seem to get the handle on the strategy. When I win (which isn't often), I sometimes sit back and ask - "How did I do that?"

Atlantic Star - I purchased this since I originally made this list and it is a must game for me. The decisions are few but as tough as any I've encountered in any game. Do you borrow against your victory points? Do you spend that money to wipe out the board? Money is limited and must be spent EXTREMELY wisely. Great game!
