Not designed specifically FOR the military, but the Military was using it in advance of Gulf War I due to the lack of a decent gaming model for the Middle Eastern theater of war. I remember seeing this on the news.
Here is 'one' that had the MILITARY in mind for its 'conception'. I wonder if ANY of the 'current' COMMANDERS ever got the 'chance' to explore THIS, prior to 'shipping out', when they commenced the recent 'incursions'?
While not exactly designed FOR the military, Larry Bond was a serving naval officer when he designed Harpoon, which was meant to be a playable version of the official traning wargame used by the Navy. The comemrcial game has been used for training purposes, I understand.
This one was designed by someone (no one seems to know who) at Westinghouse, obviously for use by military logistics officers and planners, or people planning to sell to the military. Extremely hard to find.
