My neighbor and I do battle at least one each weekend (non-gaming wives watch chick-flix in the other room = win-win). We've played a lot of the top rated games fairly extensively over the past year, such that we can get three games into a 3-4 hour block pretty easily. Question for the Geeks is as follows: Which of the two groupings below would be your preference for a 2-Player game night?

GROUP A - Carcassonne the Castle (warm-up game for 30mins); St. Petersburg (brisk 75mins); Tigris & Euphrates (90mins)

GROUP B - Samurai (warm-up); Carcassonne w/ all expansions excl. the Count (75mins); Puerto Rico (90mins)

I'm aware of the general disdain for Carc - to each their own, we really enjoy the balance between simplicity and strategy. Hopefully this won't be another list dominated by comments kicking poor ole Carc around. I've also separated St. Pete and Puerto Rico due to their similar gameplay.

Appreciate your thoughts and comments....

(P.S. First geeklist so I apologize for any rookie errors. With a little luck I'll migrate into creating a Ult. Trade to dump my copy of Eurorails....)

Main Event for Group A. Been screwed one too many times by the internal conflict where my opponent has 6 red tiles behind his shield.

Undercard game for Group A. Great little game for 2 players. Similar feel to Puerto Rico in my book.

Warmup game for Group A. Subtle variants with regards to the scoring tile chips keep this game fresh - - Show the chips to your opponent or not? Play with the chips or not?

Undercard game for Group B. Gateway game that still retains it's charms. Throw in Inns and Cathedrals, Traders and Builders, King and Scout and Princess and Dragon for a massive amounts of tiles.

Warmup game for Group B. Much fun to hit your opponent with a flurry of ships and Ronins to clobber him at the last moment.
