Games I bought knowing nothing about them basing my decision on the outside of the box

Despite the fact that I have only bought one game in the last year there was a time when i impulsively bought games that I saw at stores bases only on the outside of the box. After reading the short description on the back of boxes and seeing the pictures i fould some games irresistible (Unfortunately this lead to me thinking games were different that how they actually were). I believe that this makes me one of the most impulsive buyers in board game geek history. The amazing thing is that even though a game has turned out entirely different that what i originally thought it would be for most part i have still enjoyed these games thouroughly, which i think says something about boardgames in general. These are some of the games that have undergone this process.

I bought this game thinking it was played on a board like axis and allies. I was unpleasantly surprised. The only person who like this game is my brother, who ironically will not put up with almost any other of my games.

I bought this game thinking that involved you building up your own company while competing with other companies. Obviously i was wrong with this one. It still turned out to be a popular game with my group that has seen its fair share of plays. Hey, the game id is 5, does that mean it was the fifth every entry into bgg?

I bought this one thinking that it was a streamlined wargame. I saw walls and knights on the back so it seemed like a pretty good educated guess to me. It ended up being a lot more eurogamey that i suspected. It still has been a good that we have played quite a few times.

I saw this game and from the back of the box presumed that it was a game where preset empires fought each other. I was incorrect about this as the different colored areas worked more like continents in risk. Still a good game that even my non-gaming friends have enjoyed (quite a feat if you met them)

I bought the game with the same assumptions i had about age of imperialism and was proven pleasantly correct. It was definitely the best find when applying my impulsive game buying habits and is on pace to pass up axis and allies for most plays by my group.

I bought this game when I saw the cover and the description on the back. I thought it would make an interesting B-grade zombie-movie game. And turns out that the game is pretty much like its movie counterpart. It has been a better part of 2 years since the game has seen the light.

This is the first and LAST game that I have bought based on the box and description! This game SUCKED! BGG has saved me from a lot of potential BAD purchases and has steared me towards ones I would have otherwise passed on! Did fetch a nice price on EBAY for it....so I don't feel too bad!!!

I bought this game for the cover art alone. Who knows if I will ever play it. But I bring it out every now and then just to gaze at the cover.

I bought the German edition two days ago, solely on speculation. Low price, small form factor and the description of the back sounded like it would fit the people I game with perfectly.

I didn't read what it said on the side of the box. 8 to 18 players. We're practically never more than 7 people in my gaming group...

The first time I saw the "Panzerblitz" box, I was in 9th or 10th grade. I thought that Jagdpanther was the most impressive machine I'd ever seen. A year or two went by until I could scrape up the money to buy it, but, ahhh, the pleasure. Still one of my favorite boardgame covers.

Since I like some of Bruno's other games I picked this one up at my FLGS without doing any research. Haven't played it yet but reading the rules it seems ok. Fills a gap in my collection for games playable in a shortish timeframe with a large group.
