All of us have an unnatural attachments to our games. I'm sure many of us have gone well out of our way to go retrieve a soldier left behind. To what ends have you gone?

I'm not talking about buying new games, or about retrieving games that have a significant monetary value, I'm talking about games that were very well replaceable if worst came to worst, but you just couldn't leave them.

I had my three young children in the car. We had been at the beach all day, it was 1/2 hour past their bed time and we were still an hour from home. It was then that I remembered that I'd left Bang!, Nobody But Us Chickens, Colossal Arena and Cosmic Encounter with my sister who was 20 minutes back. Should I keep my kids up another 40 minutes, just to retrieve games? After all, I'll be seeing them in 4 days again....

Of course! What, leave my games with my sisters' kids? They'd destroy them! I could have called her and tried to explain why games should be kept from children, but, that'd be a lost cause. I'm just glad I realized they were gone when I did, one more minuted and the next offramp would have been 7 more miles down the road.

This might not count, but I just had to tell this story...

Over 10 years ago, I used to frequent a gaming store that hosted weekly miniatures games, including Warhammer 40K. I soon took the plunge and invested too much money into an Eldar army. I had high hopes of painting them all, but kept putting it off, although I had converted a few models.

After about a year of playing, the game store moved out of the area and the gamers I knew stopped playing 40K, and like many others I ended up selling my army for something else that interested me more at the time.

Eight years later, I moved to a new town and began playing at another local game store. Sure enough, 40K was regularly played there and I wished I had an army again. Prior to that, I had been playing Magic a lot, but was getting tired of that CCG. I was considering buying a new 40K army when by chance someone at the store said, "I have a 40K army I want get rid of. In fact, I'm trying to get into playing Magic if you want to trade." I agreed and he brought in the army the next week to trade.

Lucky for me, it was an Eldar army just like the one I used to play. Upon further investigation, I found that it was MY Eldar army from 10 years ago! I recognized the converted models. Everything in the box was just as I had remembered, and still unpainted. After talking to this guy, I learned that the army must have changed hands at least 3 other times before getting back to me. The moral of the story: Think before you sell or trade!

OK, this too is straying a little from the title...

I had just gotten a german copy of Taj Mahal for $40. I punched all the tokens and worked my way through a demo game to learn the rules. Then when I went to put it away, one of the bonus tokens was missing! I knew they were all there as I had just used them, but now one was gone.

I tore up the entire living room looking for that token. Coffee tables, couches, nothing was safe. I was freaking out that I'd finally gotten this game I had wanted for so long and now a critical piece was lost before I had even gotten to play it ONCE.

I did finally find it. It had somehow slipped between some cards in the deck. But let me tell you, if I hadn't found it I would have still been in there at 3 o'clock in the morning pulling up the carpet if necessary to find that missing piece!
