Games where a loss is so painful that I want to cry or break something or commit myself. or...Maybe I'm taking them too seriously.

I just read a geeklist about games that are so great that even a loss will bring you back for more. But what about those games where a loss is so painful that you have to take anger management or have a box of tissues nearby just to play them.

These are the games that sent me on a hunt for new games and eventually brought me to the site.

*I'm new here so I've only listed a couple of standbys but please add your own (so I know what to stay away from).

A classic that I've rated a 10. But sometimes after the intellectual and emotional commitment a loss is almost unbearable. I've seen grown men throw screaming fits over this one. I just can't help but take it seriously.

Another old one. I sometimes have fun playing but I have to be in the right mood. It's probably because I'm not very good but the luck element to this game (although there is a lot of skill) can drive you nuts!

Poker is absolutely the cruelest game there is. Generally, I'm a very even-tempered gamer. When I play games, I play to win, but a loss is rarely accompanied by feelings of anger or despair.

Poker is different.

It really hurts when someone pulls a miracle card to snatch away a large pot. I feel anger and frustration that I usually (and unfortunately) carry away with me from the table. And, lest you think the root of my frustration is financial, I've gotten horrible beats on freeplay games and felt just as bad.

I don't know why poker does that to me.

My last game (about 1.5 months ago and I'm only now ready to start thinking of playing again) I had the lead pretty well sealed up. Then the person in last place who knew there was no chance what-so-ever in winning arbitrarily chose a victim for his special abilities successfully putting me 1 point behind and ripping the game from my hands. Mind you this person took more damage throughout the game from EVERY other player than myself. Indeed I never attacked him due to my proximity to him, and other players were the ones to squash him. Well....he wanted to have an impact on the game and...he did.

Well, people started discussing this game in the general comments area of the geeklist, so I thought it would be a good idea to list it up here, so that the discussion is separated from real general comments.

I used to play Diplomacy with my friends when I was a teenager and I loved it. Then twenty-five years passed, I tried the game again two years ago and I hated it with passion. Go figure...

After 14 hours of hard work, you finally have your opportunity to win on a 5 or a 6 of a die roll. Oh well, if you fail it will only take you another 4 hours of play to recover.
