As great a game as Ticket to Ride is, nobody ever says "hey remember that time you connected Duluth to Seattle?". Some games tell a great story, many don't. This list is dedicated to those games which consistently inspire people to produce great session reports. In this endeavour, I have been assisted by ValJor's Excellence in Session Reporting List:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist.php3?action=view&listi...

I would particularly like to mention that this list is *not* for those games for which one warped genius has written a great session report, e.g. Cornjob's session report on "Miscellaneous Game Accessory", and the session reports on "Tic Tac Toe". This list is for those games for which make such efforts easy.

Once you get past its vague rules and find enough table space to allow the basement to expand, Betrayal and its 50 scenarios take you to many different worlds. Whether you're fighting giant cats, being chased by a werewolf, or drowning in the basement, there's always a story to tell. Now you too can live a Scooby-Doo adventure!

Everyone loves being a monster, and many of us love bashing America as well, so a game which combines both is right on the money. Every story is different, as different monsters attack different parts of the country, and session report authors invent different back-stories for the events which happened in the game. Orson Welles' broadcast of War of the Worlds provides a great foundation for a session report of MMA.

Werewolf seems to have been elevated to a whole new level of play with the advent of on-line games. In these games the moderators make an effort to invent a scenario and post their messages in context. This addition of the back-story has inspired brilliant game summaries from Norbert Chan and kimapesan (and I haven't read the others).

The rules of Shadows Over Camelot encourage role-playing as a means of avoiding talking specifics about cards, and that impetus seems to push people into character, where they stay, until they are immortalised by the court scribe (usually one who arrived with the Saxons, who now rule England). ValJor is trying to resist making any more awards for it, but I have a feeling the great stories will keep coming in.

Death and destruction is so frequent in this game that often there is little left to do at Pirate's Cove but drink rum, say ARRRHHH and make up stories of what you would have done if you'd ever made it to Hull Island. Personally, I model myself on Rupert Boneham. Don't miss Melissa's great session report.

Arkham Horror is only new, but the temptation to write session reports in the style of H.P. Lovecraft is irresistible. Any details you forget are no doubt due to the madness you are now suffering from. I haven't played it yet, but I can't wait. Also, don't miss out on MUKid's review.

Session reports for "War of the Ring" become fan-fic like undertakings. Tolkein fans want answers to nagging questions like:

What would have happened if Boromir had made it home to Gondor in time to lead his father's armies?

What if the Witch King of Angmar had been sent to Helm's Deep, only to end up battling Strider at the gates of the Hornburg?

The game is a story generator in itself.

Great thing, you did this list!
I almost created a new one just to point out fantastic reviews or reports...

Kimapesan's session report here is extraordinary and worthy of tipping had I kept a little gold for myself....

I saw this list, and immediatly thought of this game, due mostly to ynnen's session reports shortly after if came out last year. I just went back and re-read them, and yes they were as good as I remember (in fact, I saw that I told him so at the time in the comments thread, which I'd forgotten doing!). As a bonus, it seems several others have taken up the torch, and are writing very fiction-like session reports, too!.

This game does truly live up to it's 'Star Trek-inspired' RPG-esque roots, but the beauty is that it can still be played just as a one-off tactical co-op (one against many) session if so desired.

Twas 430BC and the battle of Corinth raged as my Cretan warriors defended readily against the advancing Asian hoardes.
Meanwhile my messengers rushed to me telling me of African wise men developing the concept of "Coinage".
Our stores of salt and of gems are many. Soon we shall be able to pour money and manhours into the development of tougher weapons to give us an upper hand in these continuing wars and to advance our Civilization further.

Man, I love it.

Let's not forget a game based itself upon a great story. Barring the occasional embarrasing Fremen/Harkonnen alliance, these games are usually a blast to relate. It's especially nice when Family Atomics, a traitor, or the Bene Gesserit guess really come into play!

When the path to victory goes through such waypoints as "Become an Emotional Cripple" and "Elvis Impersonator" you have great session report fodder!
