So I'm in Wal-Mart yesterday waiting to pick up the pictures from the photolab and I take the kids over to the game aisle to play for a few minutes and I see a classmate from my son's kindergarten class last year. His mom is wandering around obviously looking for a game and she reaches for...

So I walk up to her and said, "My family and I have really enjoyed playing Rat-a-tat Cat, I think you might enjoy it." She gives me a look as if to say, Who in the world are you? So I follow up by mentioning that our sons were in the same kindergarted class last year and her reply was classic: "I was just wondering who is this Game Angel coming over to rescue me?"

Wow. It doesn't get any better than that. (Except for back to back one point wins playing Ticket to Ride with my wife, but that's another Geeklist).

Please add your experiences!

i currently live in estonia where the only games available in local stores are monopoly, uno, risk, connect four, alias, a to z, mancala, memory and a few other gems.

on a positive note there is one local game designer trying to shake things up with *farlander*. haven't played but have heard good things about it.

so i don't feel so much as a gaming angel but more of a johnny appleseed type as i introduce an entire culture to gaming possibilities. i have just begun spreading gaming goodness around (as i am also new to being properly exposed)with great success to many different people of all ages (modern art has been the biggest hit). almost without exception they have all requested another gaming night and asking me where do i get these games. i've also parted with a few games (two young sisters could not get enough of bohnanza and i felt pity as the only game they had was a beat up copy of alias).

I could have been a "game angel" once, but I guess I was too shy. At a department store, three kids in the 10-13 y.o. range look very excited about getting "Risk". They discuss it a bit, so I have the time to tell them to go to another store (in the same shopping center) and buy the just-released "Angus", a much better game which even costed less, but I didn't. They left very happy with their copy of "Risk". I still feel a bit guilty.
