I don't like the word resolution. This is a list both of goals and what I think might happen based on what I see so far. Things changed a lot for me gaming wise in 2011 and I see 2012 headed in somewhat unpredicted directions.

Start making time for area meetups!

I have never made it to a large con. However, there is at least one opportunity to play games a week at either a library, coffee shop or other restaurant. Due to my employment situation I've largely had to work on the times when these are. I know that in January that will change a bit.

Part of this resoltuion is to do all in my power to work teaching 5 days a week so that I can get my Saturdays back for gaming and time with family and friends. For now ... I often work then.

Master the art of Game 'Splaining

I want to get better at teaching games. I do fine. But I need to be absolutely sure I've mastered the rules before I teach others. Also, I should learn from some local experts by following in the master's footsteps. One guy is known for having player aids for everyone as well as a plan for how he is going to explain the game. While I know the rules I often don't think through the order of how I want to present the game.

In particular I think Kingdom Builder will need careful explaining both with students and just anyone learning for the first time. I personnally really enjoy the game but if not taught properly it could be a flop for a new player.

This will be particularly important because a fellow BGG'er and I are starting a game club for 12-14 year olds at our school. I not only want to teach the games but teach them how to teach others. That way I'm not necessary to monitor the start of every game happening.

PLAY THE TOP 25

Play at the very least 5 games of BGG's top 25. I'm ok with say playing Caylus twice and three other games. But I'd like to make sure I play some of the best and some of the classics. I wouldn't mind 25 total plays as a stretch goal since I'm counting repeat plays.

STATUS: Open

Top Picks to be played or re-played:
1. Twilight Struggle - Seriously! I've only played this once!?!?
4. Through the Ages - I don't own it but would love to play again.
8. Dominion: Intrigue - All of the Dominion games really but this one in particular for some reason.
10. Caylus - One play of this is not enough but "right group" is important.
11. 7 Wonders - Simply must teach this to more people if I can.
12. El Grande - I tend to start well and then tank. Can I change this?
13. Race for the Galaxy - At this point I'd need to "re-learn."
14. Tigris & Euphrates - Not sure about face to face for this one.
15. War of the Ring - Sadly very unlikely. Could this be the year?
21. Commands & Colors: Ancients - I must make time for this.
22. Age of Steam - How can I consider myself a train gamer without playing this classic at least once? I know it is brutal but I know that going into it.
24. Combat Commander: Europe - I'd need to relearn and just make arrangements because I know people who love this game. I could also see teaching it to others.
25. Stone Age - My nephew used to love playing this with me.

EDIT: I just realized about half of the top 25 are in my "want to play" list.

Sell / Trade / Give Away

I have too many games that have not seen the light of day. Time to trade, sell or just plain give away to a good home. I've done this some but not as much as I should. I'm actually more interested in selling and giving away to be honest.

Paint and Paint before you buy.

As many people who got into minis games ... I have way to many unpainted figures. My main goal is to paint about 500 points worth of Orcs and 500 points worth of Elves.

Why two armies? Well, my nephew and niece have been enjoying playing Dwarf Kings Hold with me. My nephew loves being the Orcs and my niece likes painting the Elves with me. I'm also getting into Kings of War with a local gamer. I'm hoping my nephew and others will try Kings of War. My niece is a bit young for that game. My nephew is as well but he could get it. The figures not being glued really bothers him and he can't "see" what he has if that is the case. "That Orc doesn't have any arms!" That needs to change. DKH: I only really need 8 Orcs and a couple of Greatax. I'm almost finished with 10 Elf Spearmen. I really need to get working on Elf Bowmen.

Loan to budding gamers.

I visited a family from church who had a son in the hospital last year and brought games. He and Dad still talk about the "cool games that Denny has." I should try to loan out my games to others even more than I have in the past.

Mr. Jack was one of the favorites of that particular day. They also showed interest in Kingdom Builder when I was playing that in the fellowship hall at church the other day.

Help others find these great games.

My side of town really only has one FLGS and it is fairly new so not everyone knows about it. I have been promoting it to people from my church or suggesting a few online places if they aren't mall shoppers. I do know of several that are close to my school if parents or students from the game club ask "where do I find these games?"

Play new games as they arrive.

I have a few games that should be coming from Kickstarter this year. I want to make sure that I play them within one month of them coming out. I have no idea what order they'll finally get printed and shipped so here they are in alphabetical order:

D-Day Dice
Empires of the Void
Lemonade Stand
Kings of Air and Steam
Nature of the Beast: Polar vs. Prairie
