This seems to be a neat co-op (unfortunately I didn't have the time to play my copy yet).
The player's objective is to secure the boarders of the Roman empire. Since that's such a Herculean task it takes four rulers to do so (tetrarchia = rule of four).

The basic mechanism is borrowed from Flash Point: Fire Rescue, i.e. roll two dice (in this case one with Arabic and one with Roman numerals, yay for theme) and see where unrest occurs or a new Barbarian army invades.
But it takes much more strategy to win this one. Attacking a Barbarian army head-on alone is suicide. You really need to cooperate and cut off the rear guard of an army to defeat it.

The board is made out of mouse-pad material and quite compact. All other components roll up in it and everything fits nicely into a small bag, making this probably one of the most portable co-ops that isn't just a deck of cards.

* In a two player game both players have to play one Augustus and one Caesar each. I'm not sure if this triggers Richard's dislike for playing multiple characters, or if it's fine with the somewhat abstract nature of the game.
* I have no idea if the game's theme would be to Jen's liking or not.

As far as I know the game is only available directly from NestorGames and isn't that cheap with added shipping from Spain. But if Richard and Jen are interested in this one, I'd be willing to donate a copy.
