Condition: Very Good

This is for the original retail version of Agents of SMERSH, plus a copy of Agents of SMERSH: Swagman's Hope ordered direct from 8th Summit, plus the 1st Edtion Full Upgrade pack from the 2015 Agents of SMERSH 2nd Edition KS which includes Agents of SMERSH: Showdown! and Agents of SMERSH: All the Kickstarter Promos. From that, I'm pretty sure it comes with everything released, but ask if you want me to check to make sure of something specific. All material is stored in the base game box - the expansion Swagman's Hope box contains older versions of items and duplicate items, and can be pitched rather than shipped to save on shipping cost. Base game played once or twice, expansions unplayed, everything in very good to like new condition. At this point it would be too difficult to split this up, but if it doesn't sell and you want just the expansions, I'll see what I can do. English first edition (2012) 8th Summit (updated to second edition).

Soft Reserve: $75

This is a fun experience more than a deep game. Yes, there are some decisions that matter, but this really is about the fun stories that develop. I like to try to come up with stories that link the parts in the books together, at least somewhat. It can take quite a long time to both set up and play - really have to stay focused on encountering henchmen to keep the game moving towards the end. But it is always so much fun!
I have the Swagman expansion. Normally play with 2-3 characters - I think 4 would be fun but I do not have space for more than three, and even that is pushing it.

How about a mix of Pandemic mixed with Arabian Nights and poof you have Agents of SMERSH. Think of a James Bond setting as agents travel the world jumping from one crazy spy situation to another in a quest for the kingpin.
During an especially busy time at work this was on my table for a couple of weeks as I played a turn here and there. I'd look at the world map on my game table and see a spy movie slowly progress. Plenty of game here.

2016 chart: N/A
In summary: The nearest I'll get to being James Bond. Terrific fun.

---

If anyone out there has (or wants) this game, then you must 100% find the FREE mobile app and download it to your phone/tablet/whatevs. It's literally a game changer and takes a great game, turning it into a fantastic game. Especially for us solo multi-handed playing gamers.

I'd seen lots of things about this and Arabian Nights and the whole 'paragraph book' thing, so thought I'd give it a spin. Turns out that there is a heck of a game here in its own right, with some great tactical options and strategies to follow, hoping for successful skill checks, effective die rolls and some lucky or safe choices. There's been an incredible amount of effort poured into this at every turn - and it shows.

I love playing 2-handed with 2 random characters and taking on Dr Lobo in a game that is sometimes James Bond and sometimes Austin Powers. But not as funny or fluffy as I'd feared. It's better than that. Way better.

I've had some genuinely edge-of-the-seat games and moments where the tension and excitement has been thrilling. Who wouldn't want that out of a solo game?! I've got 100% of the bonus content and expansions too, which are great and add even more to the game.... as I race around the globe battling a tricky AI opponent and his henchmen. Who are a great addition to the experience, with rewards, punishments and effects depending on when you encounter them and win/lose.

But, that app. Rather than flick to the relevant section of the impressive game book and read the passage, skill check options and flavoured narrative - if you have the app, you simply confirm the basic details, make a choice and boom.... you get the exact same passage but on a single screen. No chance of spoilers, really efficient, easier to read and a darn sight quicker. Plus, it also gives you the chance to play with the card version, the book expansion, or both.

I've been *this* close to playing it multiplayer at family and friend gatherings recently... but the selfishness of wanting to experience it from 2 supporting character's perspective stopped me. I'm sure I will give it a spin with others soon, but for now - I'm more than happy to be a super spy on my own with this cracking game.

I then noticed Aaron walking around hoping to play Agents of SMERSH, a game I really enjoy. He had requested the game and someone to teach it, it's a fantastic game, it's basically Tales of Arabian Nights with a 60s spy theme and an actual Game into it!

Aaron and I were joined by Steve and Captain Awesome, the legend of Spinning Tops! We had a great time and a great game, taking the win with Lobo at 5 on his Plan track.

Kicked off the day with a 70s spy movie game, in the mould of Tales of the Arabian Nights. Taught Steve and Laurie from the Canadian chapter of WABA, and later joined by Priya. Much rushing around the world ensued, stopping nefarious plots - a disintegration ray, sterilization tablets in the water supply, and other dastardly goings on. Dr Lobos evil plan could not be stopped however, and the world was taken over. Best moment? A huge fight against three well armed thugs while the hero was only armed with a stapler - and won!

We managed to get in a game of Terraforming Mars on Monday evening. Not only did I manage to win this game, but I managed to do so by a fairly sizable margin. The final score was 129-93 which I think is the largest lead I've had in this game.

Games at lunch at work picked up again on Tuesday since one of the guys got back from vacation. We started things off with San Juan in which I came dead last.

Since there wasn't much time left, we played a quick game of Love Letter where everyone had managed to win 2 rounds each before we ran out of time. This was the last time I played games at lunch for the week as I'm still feeling like I'm tired of playing the same little filler games over and over.

My wife and I took Summoner Wars out for the first time in a while on Friday night and managed to play 2 games of it. I tried out Little Meda in the first game against the second summoner of the Swamp Orcs and got completely trashed. It wasn't even close. The second game was my dwarves against her sand goblins which ended up being a really tight game. Things were looking to go in my favour until my wife summoned her last card which ended up being a brutal champion that took out most of my commons and tore my one remaining champion apart. I had a chance to put the beast down but completely wiffed with all of my attacks. In response, she tore poor Bolvi to pieces.

Imhotep was our first game on Saturday evening. We haven't played too many 2-player games of this but there's already a clear trend of her winning and me doing the not winning. It was a bit of a surprise to me then when I was ahead for most of the game. I thought I had it until we did the final scoring and discovered that she had a couple of end-game scoring cards. I have no idea how I missed those. We actually ended up with a tied game and had to quickly consult the rules as to what the tiebreaker was which ended up being who had the most bricks on their sleds and in their quarries and that ended up being me! A minor victory is still a victory. Perhaps I should end my Imhotep career on a high note...

Next up in the list of games she usually wins but I agreed to play anyways was Schotten Totten. Things looked a little rocky for both of us at the start and she was making some pretty bold moves to claim stones, hoping to hit 7-9 runs. Unfortunately for her, I was holding every single 8 she needed and started playing them one after the other on a stone she was confident she was going to take. By the time I had 4 stones, we created a situation where I would claim 2 on my next turn meaning she could stop 1 of those at most with her next card. Apparently Saturday was my night to win games that I don't usually win.

We've had Agents of SMERSH for just a little over 2 years now and for some reason had never actually played it. While going through our collection and trying to decide what we can sell off to make some room, I started to wonder about this since we hadn't played it in that stretch of time but we decided to keep it until we at least try it. Sunday night was apparently the night we finally gave it a try and I'm extremely glad we did. We used to have Tales of the Arabian Nights but eventually got rid of it because the choices were so incredibly random and there wasn't much (if any) of a game to it, despite really liking the storytelling aspect. We also had Near and Far but absolutely hated that one - the gameplay in that was horrendous and it was just a giant slap fight for who got to see one of the scant few, remarkably forgettable stories scattered on the map (which in a storytelling game seems to completely miss the point). Agents of SMERSH is apparently the storytelling game we've been looking for. The stories in this are more sensible than those in Tales of the Arabian Nights and far more memorable than anything found in Near and Far. A number of the story elements are cliched pulp spy movie things, but they're amusing and make sense. And while the gameplay here isn't deep by any measure, it's enough to make things amusing and keep you playing. The campy, pulp spy adventure movie theme really comes through in the storytelling and makes things really amusing. We ended up losing this game as we didn't have enough intel to defeat Dr. Lobo but we enjoyed the game enough to keep it around and know that we want to play it again fairly soon.

Up until Near & Far entered my collection, this was my favorite Story-Telling game. Think Tales of Arabian Nights with an actual game wrapped around it. The James Bond Super Villain-esque theme is just icing on the cake. Great stories, great moments, great humor all wrapped into an amazing experience that will still beat you. So much to love here and while not for everyone, this one will forever be a favorite of mine.

A loony Story telling game set in a pseudo James Bond, cold war, espionage world. Players are UN Spies attempting to stop Dr. Lobo from taking over the world. By doing so, you're going from country to country having encounters, collecting intel, and trying to defeat Dr. Lobo's Goons. The stories in this game...well...they're wild, they're unbelievable, and they're just plain fun. This is Tales of Arabian Nights but better. If you grew up with any interest in James Bond...then you'll enjoy this game.
It was published by low key publisher...wasn't very popular. Admittedly, I wouldn't own it cept for I got it on sale for $20 NIS.
