I got this for 1 buck at a GW.

Mostly posting because I went to 3 GW and at one of them this couple was bitching about there being no Ouija boards. But at the next GW I went to like (10 mins away) they had like 10 of them, it just made me laugh.

Same rule applies for the Sliders version. She rolls those pawns as fast as possible, trying to knock out as many opponents as she can. She plays it like a demolition derby. Points don't matter.

I was glad to find another copy of this since my first one disappeared somehow haha (I think someone borrowed it a few years ago).

In great condition, especially for $1.50, though it smells terrible. Some dryer sheets in the box for a few days should do the trick.

Cardboard:
De Vulgari Eloquentia
Agricola
Sushi Go!
Paris Connection

Digital:
Ascension: Deckbuilding Game x9
Carcassonne x2
Patchwork

New Games:
Sorry! Sliders x5 NEW!
Fields of Arle NEW!

Anastasia requested De Vulgari Eloquentia on Monday night. While we've only played this a few times, it's becoming a favorite. With each new session, we've seen more and more nuance teased out of possible paths to victory, as well as the aggressive use of harbors to snipe location bonuses from each other. I ended up staying a merchant for much longer than Anastasia, and had a massive nest-egg stored up before becoming a friar. Meanwhile, Anastasia ended up spamming knowledge through the use of Amanueses and very nearly unlocked the 8th level for the full Vulgare manuscript. She ended as Camerlegno while I became a monk. I lost 49-51. It was absurdly close and extremely fun.

Our friends made dinner for us and brought a large bottle of delicious Traverse City bourbon and their fancy Revised Edition of Agricola. I ended up grabbing both of the occupations that buffed Day Laborer (Seasonal Worker and Assistant Tiller, I believe), which meant that I was getting free wheat/vegetables and plowing a field and getting two food when I went there. I made sure to snag first player as often as possible to maintain my presence there, though the better action spaces available later consistently tempted my opponents away from blocking me. I also got the occupation and minor improvement that buffed the resource market, so I was grabbing something like seven goods at a time from there. Basically, my game was "go to those two spots, repeat, win." It was close, so that wasn't "broken," but it really felt great to effectively take two-to-four actions worth of stuff in a single go over and over again.

We got to play Fields of Arle for the first time now that I'm borrowing it from a friend. Oh man, this game is so good. Like all Rosenberg development games, it is at once extremely familiar to his other games and entirely different and unique apart from them. Rather than the focus on leverage more or fewer workers than other players, the tool specialization is very novel. We played with the recommended light-green starting buildings and bought them all, and I eventually grabbed both Castles to great effect, maxing several tools in the process. Anastasia completed all of her traveling and had a massive number of livestock by the end of the game, which also greased the wheels for food and wool during the half-years. I ended up winning by a hair's breadth due to more tool points and bigger buildings. We both agreed that it was a lot of fun, and can see a lot of complex strategy in there for future plays. We almost played again last night, but were pretty tired, so we drank some beer and watched The West Wing instead. I look forward to playing this a lot more.

Theodore's second birthday was officially on Saturday, and after we got him a birthday bagel at Bruegger's per his request, we drove past a rummage sale. We stopped in, and I found Sorry! Sliders for one dollar, and instantly purchased it. It was missing a single scoring pawn per color but was otherwise in perfect condition, and I have a mountain of PnP bits in the basement that easily made up for the minor component shortage. First off, let me just say, this game is a ton of fun. A TON of fun. I don't have any dexterity games, nor have I played many, but I've wanted to snag this one for a while due to its simplicity. It is just a raucous good time, and the rules and scoring are actually very engaging and well done for what sort of game it is--a lot more strategy than meets the eye. We had some friends over on Sunday night and played five rounds of this in between some other games, and it was just a blast. This game is never leaving my shelf, and I'll insist on a few quick matches at all future meetups.

The other games we played that same evening were Sushi Go! and Paris Connection with a full six players. The former is always fun and needs little additional detail. The latter was absolutely excellent. This was a new game for four of the six players at the table (read: not Anastasia and I), and at first, everyone balked at only getting a choice between two simple actions. However, it only took a few minutes before we could see the game "click" for everyone else. Soon trains were being deliberately dumped for no gain, shares were being traded this way, that way, and everywhere else, and short-term negotiation ruled the table. I ended up coming in third after one of the players rushed Marseilles, thinking they were in the lead. They came in second, while another player scored about ten more points. It was quick in terms of game time, but long-ish with six players. I wanted to play again immediately, but it was at the end of the night.

Finally, Anastasia and I indulged two mega-long games of "play with everything" Carcassonne games while feeding Penny, which means we played with every expansion and double tiles. We ended both games scoring in the 500s. The most amusing element was that we've never played with Princess & The Dragon before, and it was a riot. Anastasia was brutal, and kept moving the Dragon to where I had a lot of development, then inevitable massacred my meeples. Hilarious.

My paternity leave is over, and I'm back at work. This is a good thing, as Anastasia and I are both creatures of habit and it's helpful to have set up a good routine for Penelope's sleeping schedule before I left, but we're both pleased to have normalcy restored to the home. The last two weeks were like a big vacation, and we enjoyed it immensely. Being second-time parents now, we've found that while the transition from one kid to two is very tough (and will continue to be so), we're no longer naive in terms of parenting in general, so much of the trappings of bringing home a kid were no big deal. Business as usual, just an extra cutie in the other room.

I do already miss wrestling with Theodore ALL DAY though, that's a blast.

Also, my cable was repaired and internet, along with a new modem, is working really well. However, the smart signal repeater I used to boost the otherwise weak wifi signal from one end of the house to another is very spotty now, which is a bit frustrating. Oh well.
