Fate of the Norns is a line of games that spans 20+ years. It all began back in 1992 when Andrew Valkauskas started to design the first edition. This was a labor of love that kept him cloistered in university libraries scouring all available sources of Norse mythology and history. Since that time, there have been 2 editions that use the d% (2d10) system [Fate of the Norns], and 2 editions that use the runic game system (RGS) [Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok].
1993 - FOTN 1e (80 page PDF)
2002 - FOTN 2e
2006 - FOTN: Ragnarok, a new RPG with different time period and rules, based on the use of Runes as opposed to D10/D100 dice.
2012 - FOTN 1e (the expanded 1993 book (320 pages), as opposed to the 2002 one) is published on paper for the first time. Up until then, no FOTN product had ever
been released as a physical product.
2013 - FOTN: Ragnarok Second Edition (the Kickstart Edition), with a revised RGS rune-based system.
RGS uses the 24 traditional Elder Futhark runes to resolve all game mechanics. These runes are color coded for the FOTN:R Trait system (Red = physical, Blue = Mental, Green = Spiritual). The 2013 Edition of FOTN:R also uses the 25th (Void) rune.
Each incarnation worked hard to resist common fantasy RPG industry tropes - and instead stay true to the Viking culture. There have been several supplements (such as sagas) released for each edition in PDF format. Since 2012 the FOTN line of games is no longer exclusively digital, hard cover color books and boxed sets have been printed/manufactured.
