The Car Wars boardgame was often used as a Role-playing game, and sometimes still is. A look through Autoduel Quarterly will reveal many of the scenarios are adventures, not simple combat scenarios.
Starting with Deluxe Car Wars, the skill system includes a number of non-combat skills; the compendium includes many non-combat skills, such as animal husbandry, Area Knowledge, Engineering, Espionage, Fast-Talk, Journalism, Teaching. (CWC-Rev p. 54-56)
The system has 3 stats: DP (Damage Points), Prestige, and Wealth, plus characters can have as many skills as they can afford, plus 3 free skills at +0: Running, Climbing, and Area Knowledge (Hometown). Typical campaigns are 30 points, at 10 points per level for levels +0, +1, +2, and +3, and 20 per level thereafter.
Several Roleplaying adventures have been published. Convoy, Hell on Wheels, Muskogee Mayhem, Ultraforce, and many have been published in Autoduel Quarterly.
