Kaos
A monthly magazine published for 75 issues between October 1991 and 2002, first by Granata press, then by Nexus Editrice.
The most widespread and long-lasting Italian RPG magazine, distributed in newspaper kiosks all over the nation for more than 10 years. It was started by Granata Press mixing RPGs and fantasy comics. Articles, reviews, game materials cover all the range of RPGs available in Italy, no matter who is the publisher, and boardgames with related settings.
Issue 10 is numbered 1.0 being the first one of the new publisher Nexus Editrice, founded by the magazine staff, that will be one of the leader publishers of RPGs: it will be Nexus to convince Games Worksop to start again the Warhammer RPG line, that had been abandoned years before. The new layout, with drawings by Paolo Parente, will be used by further foreign licensors of the game. Nexus will translate several important RPGs and publish brand new ones by Italian authors; afterwards Nexus will become an important boardgame publisher, launching international succeses such as "X-Bugs/Micro Mutants", "War of the Ring", "Wings of War", "Marvel Heroes".
From Kaos, several other magazines are born: "Oracolo" (collectible card games), "X" (RPG game materials), "GiocAreA" (boardgames).
From Issue 60, the magazine changes its name to PowerKaos, opening its pages to videogames and general boardgames, absorbing the short-lived GiocAreA.
After the last issue, publication goes on as the catalogue of the main Italian game show "Lucca Comics & Games". A virtual edition http://www.kaosonline.it/kaos.asp is still active.
