The Vortex System is a light to medium skill based, point buy system. It first appeared as the mechanics for Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space and then also was used for Primeval and Rocket Age.
It's core mechanics are Attribute + Skill +/-Trait (if applicable) + 2d6 = Result. If Result greater than TN, success.
The initiative system introduced in Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space: The Roleplaying Game (10th Doctor), while loyally emulating the feel of the franchise, were a bit controversial as it stated the order in a turn would play out as follows- Talkers, Doers, Movers, Shooters.
The Vortex system has often been favorably compared to Unisystem.
Before it was officially named the Vortex System, fans (tongue in cheek) were referring to it as the George System. And when Primeval was in production some of the Cubical 7 staff were calling it the Saturday Afternoon Tea Time Adventure System. It received it's proper name while Rocket Age was in production.
